Bay area rent

Do Bay area rents typically rise during summers ? I was looking to move (me, my gf and my cat want to get a bigger place together) and it seems rent in Mountain View increases by 100$ every week. I know rent usually always increases, but this is way more steeper than expected. I can move pretty much whenever I want to, so if waiting a few months mean saving a few hundreds every week, that will work better. (I am looking in 2500$-3500$ range for a 1BR)

It doesn’t change much by month of year unless you’re looking near a large university (stanford/berkeley/sjsu)

Maybe it's just this place then. Their rent went 2900, 3000, 3100 in the past three weeks

Yeah summer rates are shit. Not sure why. Maybe people are more willing to move? Or a ton of interns desperate for apartments... Best rates are in December/January.

December / January works for me. Thanks for the info

Yes! 3000 in Dec/Jan can be 4000 in June/July

Intern season

Explains a lot

Summer rates r high bcos of interns. They would just need a place for 12 weeks to crash on. They don’t bother too much abt rent. Also bcoz of interns the demand goes up

I think the school ends around this time so new grads move in and families move around. Real estate prices also increase over the summer.

Beat me to it!

Summer rate is also high because of recent grads moving into the city for their entry job. Lots of demand during this time.

Bay area rent is at the same rate as mortgage for a 3bd house in Seattle area.

Try a 4br on a half acre, and it still doesn't cost that much

You can buy a new house with cash, every 6 months, in Cambodia for Bay area rent prices! In 10 years you'll own half a city :)))
