Help me decide where to move. 30 yo woman with remote SDET job. Buying property isn’t possible in current HCOL area. Cities are great for meeting single people but I’m ready to just do what’s best for my life. I want to buy a house, get a dog, and leave the rest up to what happens. - Fairbanks, Ak: I actually love the cold and dark weather and would love to live somewhere with year round snow. I visited, it was very different than continental US. Seems like a cool adventure but I worry about meeting people with such a sparse population. No sales or income tax would be great though - Spokane, Washington: cold snowy weather close enough to Seattle and also lakes in Idaho - Sacramento area: benefits of California laws, close to Tahoe, beach and SF. Might meet educated cool people but sounds like a lot of married folks move out there. Could also be priced out of buying - Northern California: warm weather, low COL - Nashville area: houses are like 200k out there, but Tennessee seems like a completely impoverished red state and I don’t want to live somewhere that is hostile to women’s reproductive rights. - Kentucky or Alabama: similar to Tennessee but could just live in these areas for a year or two to buy a house then leave to rent it out - Miami: this is high end of MCOL area but could be fun place to live. I’ve never lived in tropical climate with Latin American influence. Though I’m not much of a partied or clubber and don’t like the sun or heat very much I’m pretty much open to anywhere, just looking for a change. Grew up in Minnesota now in SF, don’t want either. Would love to hear Blind’s thoughts
Rapid City, SD.
Why no Richmond, VA or Raleigh, NC?
All of the places you mention vary from “pretty Republican” to “extremely right wing”. I’m right wing so I live in a right wing place, but mouthy Democrats here get their tires slashed. So keep that in mind.
What about Portland Oregon? It’s MCOL and it has the temperature, temperament and (superior) liberal politics you like.
You think wanting to live somewhere that doesn’t erode women’s rights is the same as superior liberal?
There is a very high correlation, yes. But happy to hear an example within the US that contradicts what I just said.
Miami or Tampa
Texas
Orlando
Portland
Portland housing cost is increasing. Oregon income and property tax is extremely high
