Joining amazon Alexa soon, my office is in the downtown area however for now the role is remote but immigration wants me to be around the 50 mile radius of the office. The places I have in mind to live is Issaquah Bellevue Kirkland Issaquah is my first preference however not sure when the offices would reopen, which may become a nightmare to commute everyday Should I look into some other places ? no kids atm so not worried about the school zones. My wife and I like areas with not much traffic and have good options for restaurants and fitness gyms#tech TC : 180k New TC : 350k YOE : 7.5 #amazon #alexa #issaquah
Mercer Island, Bellevue and Kirkland are the best in order of the Eastside in terms of location, education and appreciation. Issaquah is not bad, but not as good as others.
Thank you, how's the commute to DT Seattle during peak hours from Bellevue and issaquah?
morning commute Bellevue to Seattle SLU/interbay area runs about 35 minutes, but i go in pretty early. Home is more like 45 min but could be a little longer with backups.
Are you looking to rent or buy?
For now renting, but I'd look into buying after I settle down with job and area
Why not Seattle proper?
Was told to avoid Seattle cos of crime rates 😃
Bad advice, it’s very area dependent. Coming from someone who lived in a high crime part of Seattle, too, so I am biased against the city. But some parts of it are very very safe, and you could afford to rent in those areas (e.g. Magnolia) for as much as rent in Bellevue
Issaquah
The triangle
We love Mercer Island, but I wouldn’t recommend it here if you don’t have kids. I still have fond memories of living in Downtown Seattle with my wife. It is kind of crazy, but worth it if you like city life. I would definitely look into Ballard. Great restaurants and coffee shops. It would be my first choice if we didn’t have kids. The east side is cool but it is more geared towards family with kids. That being said, Bellevue is the best option if it is just the two of you. Downtown Bellevue has a great vibe. I would still choose Ballard though..
Depends on your price point. Nicest is Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland (no particular order). If you are looking for a little more upside or are on a budget. I encourage you to look in the Bothell or Lynnwood area. It’s not as nice as the east side but the next area to gentrify. Light rail going into Lynnwood in the next 1-1.5 years and is close to the highway with access to Seattle and the east side.
Good to know, I have heard house prices are soaring in the Lynnwood and Bothell area. Anyway for now renting, planning to buy a house after a year when I settle in with the job
DT Bellevue is awesome if you can afford it. Has everything, close to all and is much safer than Seattle.
If you can afford: Bellevue > Kirkland > Redmond Next best: Bothell > Lynnwood Other places are fine. Issaquah is over rated for the current prices. Anything above 1M for a SFH in Issaquah seems like an overkill in my opinion
For now I am renting, though I'm open to buying a house after a year when I settle in with the job (should have mentioned on my post )
Why don’t you ask Alexa.
