I received feedback from a virtual onsite interview with #Datadog the other week, the recruiter said feedback was positive but that they were not moving forward due to reduced headcount. Does anyone know if this is true or were they just trying to be polite and avoid saying I didn't pass the hiring bar? They did not provide any other feedback and suggested I reach back out in a year. I think I probably just did not do well enough in my interviews but saying I was rejected because of reduced headcount just leaves me feeling like I wasted my time. Tax: TC 250k YOE 5 years
Got a reject even without interview and no recruiter communication. Seems they are under hiring freeze.
That’s true. Headcount is done for this year. Spring 2023 for next round.
Would that apply to experienced hires as well? I'm not familiar with annual headcount caps for experienced hires. I'd assume employee churn would lead to some open positions to backfill even if new headcount had already been filled.
No experienced hires and new grads (graduating in 2023) are pretty much in the safe zone. If you’re super experienced, HMU.
Wtf I’m in the middle of a loop now.
Let me know how things go! Hopefully my situation was just interview performance or lack of team match. Hoping for the best for you!
Thanks friend
This might mean they couldn’t find a team match.
Just got a reject couple of weeks ago but it was because of my coding performance. I have not done any true programming the last 8 years, and just learned Python for the interview. I work mostly as solutions architect and cloud engineer past 8 years.
A recruiter just reached out to me today
We are still hiring engineers but maybe not all areas/locations/specialties. My guess is you were a “yes” from the group that interviewed you but a soft yes rather than a glowing strong yes. And the hiring committee is being pickier about who gets offers. Alternatively, there was no team fit. Source: work there, still hosting plenty of interviews! But not on hiring committee so I’m guessing the details
Going through a loop now. When does team matching happen? After on site?
Typically yes. If you have very specific skills (for example: Kafka expert instead of backend generalist) they might pick a team earlier. But it’s not uncommon to do one or more team fit calls after the main interview loop
Can I DM you about interview exp
Sure, not sure how much help I will be though
Why would they lie about this? If you didn’t pass, they’d say something like “everyone enjoyed having you but unfortunately it was a fit” or something along those lines
I'm not sure, it feels like something they would have known about prior to my onsite. I wouldn't expect headcount to change dramatically in a week. Coupled with suggesting I wait 12 months before reapplying, it sounded more like a rejection due to interview performance. You're probably correct though, they wouldn't have any reason to lie and I should take them at face value.
That’s such BS. if you passed and they don’t have headcount why wouldn’t they just bring you on when it’s open instead of re interviewing in 12 months
