Before you generalize bootcamp grads. I aware there are many horrible bootcamps out there that take your money. However, the one I attended is far beyond that. I wanted to make sure i didnt go to a crappy one where they learn css for a whole month. Its more than just building a full stack app from scratch. It more about building that automony to learn whatever is thrown at you as well as understanding data structures. I graduated with a prior background in mechanical engineering. Its been a couple months since i graduated and I only had 1 onsite (i did great but they chose the other guy because he had more exp). I been trying to utilize my referrals for help but I still get the rejection letter. I believe i have a lot to show when it comes to challenges or on site interviews but i keep getting rejected. Its applies more pressure especially if my classmates who i graduated with got job like facebook, yelp, lyft and apple to name a few. How can I stand out more. I already created multiple projects and tailored my past engineering exp. for software engineering roles. thanks TC $0
don’t pressure yourself too hard, many people with experience have never passed any of those FANG-like companies interviews, or will ever pass
try to use your mechanical engineering background to stand out, or find software engineering jobs within that industry to gain experience.
Are you looking at less prestigious companies so you can get your foot in the door or swinging for the FAANG fences? If it’s the latter then that may be part of the problem.
Applying everywhere small mid and big startups. Kind of stopped applying to FAANG. I’ve had contractor recruiters contact me for google Facebook and apple positions. Then they stopped proceeding with me because I’m too junior with no experience. Btw I’m a tutor
Bay Area? If so would you be willing to move to a midsize city for a couple of years?
Carvana does internship-to-hire.. I would say getting an internship is your best bet. At this point you have 0 yoe, and that won’t get the attention of recruiters.
I graduated from a bootcamp. Took me 3 months to find my first job. Keep at it, OP. And pump out leetcode like your job depends on it (it does).
Keep grinding, keep applying. Shamelessly reach out to every grad you can find on LinkedIn and ask for a referral. I failed Google, Facebook, Uber, Dropbox, PayPal, and more. It was fucking awful. Eventually you're gunna have to settle for less "prestigious" companies. Just get a year of experience and try again next year. That's what I did and now I'm off to AWS.
Apply to credit karma we hire boot camp graduates all the time.
Try BlackRock. We hired a lot of bootcamp grads in the past few years. We definitely appreciate their diverse backgrounds and different point of views they are able to bring to the team.
Have you reached out to alums? Referrals are one thing but alum network has been more helpful to me.
Yup reach out to alums it’s a hit or miss depending who I talk to
I’ve requested referrals too but no luck still
