Cyber truck killer: Chinese version of EV truck
Update: I'm choosing Uber. More exciting company to work for, the EM for the team I matched with seems to be an amazing EM, and their TC is by far #1 I have offers from Twitter (SWE2) and Box (Sr SWE), and I'm hearing back from Uber (L4) on Wednesday. Twitter: 270k TC Box: 295k TC + $15k sign-on I am planning to move out of the Bay Area, and Box TC will drop down to 273k (+$15k sign-on). Twitter and Uber TC will not be impacted by the move. Uber recruiter was confident they can match these offers if feedback is positive. Edit: Uber offer is in: 173k base, 330k equity, edit2: they bumped equity to 390k 23k bonus target, 25k sign-on, edit2: they bumped sign on to 50k (25k now and then again in a year) And 10.1k relocation to Seattle Gonna chat with HMs soon but I'm hoping they'll allow full time remote as I do not want to live close to office or do a long commute, lol Twitter recruiter is going to try and bump the TC to 280-285k, but no guarantees. I'll find out tomorrow. Box seems pretty fixed in their offer. Box has stronger refreshers than Twitter (per year I think Box is about ~20k higher than Twitter) I am planning on working full time remote and all companies offer this. I love the team I'm offered at Box. The Twitter team is ok/good, but I much prefer Box. Don't have enough info on the Uber team yet, but from what I know, I think I prefer Uber team over Twitter, but still less than Box. As for Box vs Twitter vs Uber as companies, not sure how I'd rank them. I know Box and Twitter both offer unlimited PTO and great WLB. Uber also has unlimited PTO, but not sure how WLB / culture is over there. 5 YOE. #box #twitter #uber #offer
Why leave Riot?
3 reasons. 1. TC, currently 200k at Riot, I would hopefully get promoted from P2 -> P3 this year, but the pay won't go up all that high. And the long term bonus structure is weird. 2. Full time remote. Riot doesn't offer full time remote. I see myself moving to Bellevue. Way less traffic, more accessible to nature, trying to do anything isn't a hassle with crowds / lines. I will miss the weather and the food on Sawtelle for sure... 3. Changing teams requires you to interview. Other companies I've been looking at don't have that requirement.
Thanks for the info, can you elaborate on the long term bonus structure?
Can you break up numbers of your offer ?
Box: - 220k base (198k if I move out of the Bay) - 300k equity Twitter: - 175k base - 275k equity - 15% bonus target
I see you are planning to move out, I doubt if you offer stands the same with twitter, since I heard they have paybands per location. Are you moving within the same region ?
Hey, I have on-site coming up with Twitter and Uber, is it okay if I DM you? Fwiw, I'd push as much as I can and then go with Twitter.
Feel free to DM :)
Hey OP, how was your Uber onsite? What kinds of interviews did you have and what was the general difficulty of the questions? Any tips for system design prep?
The difficulty was just right imo, not stupid annoying and fun to solve for the two coding rounds. One was a leetcode medium I'd say. The other I was asked to implement something that felt closer to on the job type stuff Behavioral was standard although I was asked about my motivations for joining Uber which I thought was interesting. System design was interesting. First half was a lot about projects I worked on, with a lot of focus on the technical aspects and things I specifically implemented. Not a whole lot of interest in work I scoped out. Second half was focused on designing a service and they were less interested in me gathering info compared to your usual system design. More focused on how I would design a specific service given the problem. With emphasis on the service design and not all the components around it
Go for uber or box. Much better place to work for.
Hi congrats on your offers! Would you mind sharing your prep for code and sys. design? Were most of your coding questions medium difficulty? Thank you in advance.
Coding rounds were mostly around medium difficulty, yes. Tbh I didn't really do much prep, just did a ton of interviews, pulled from experience, and was upfront about my strengths and weaknesses.
I think L4 SWE at Uber should beat those. Did they say which org? WLB will vary, though a lot of teams are hiring. You should clarify whether remote will impact your TC. I think pay bands are affected by where you go.
For Uber the org(?) is "Documents Platform" My understanding is that remote will not impact my TC for any of these positions, but I don't think I clarified with Uber. The recruiter did say that living in LA, Bay, or Seattle area won't impact my pay, they all have the same band
Box has the best WLB of all. I don't know if they lowered the TCs being offered in recent times but I have seen some of their offers for 5 YOE exceeding 350K.
Hey OP, I actually turned down Box for Linkedin, but I would have chosen them over other offers if my Linkedin offer hadn't precipitated. I would recommend them because what's 20-30k for a team you love? That isn't easy to find. The only draw back is Box stock isn't going to return the big gains like Uber might.
Have you tried getting a sign-on for Twitter?
Yeah I did, recruiter wasn't able to make it happen. But I'm not sure if they'll come back with one tomorrow to try and close the TC gap w/ Box.
I was able to get a 30k sign-on bonus recently (on top of the TC similar offer to yours).
