Several employees have gotten an email that Broadcom is not going to file visa lottery for F1 visa employees. Also no extension would be filed for existing employees on H1 and need renewal. Such a drastic step for people who accepted Broadcom’s offer in October 23. Pretty sure they weren’t aware that immigration support would be taken away. Employees are now asked to move to home country or their job will automatically terminate once visa status expires. Only few employees were approved for H1 filing based on careful review by upper management. #h1b #workvisa #broadcom #vmware
They should file a lawsuit.
As an inhumane as it sounds are they obligated to file, I am on visa myself. I am constantly mentally prepared about all these weird scenarios
Definitely worth a try. The least they could do is give severance, since this is essentially layoff and forcing people to leave. And again this wasn't mentioned in the offer letter/employment contract.
Broadcom management can do anything to save money. They are the most unethical and stupid people. There CEO does not believe in innovation but looks like he believes in finding new innovative ways for layoffs….
Sounds about right
Yet they are filing for LCAs https://h1bgrader.com/h1b-sponsors/broadcom-corporation-101zyd8627/lca/2024
From the job tile, most of them are hardware and come from original Broadcom
No visa renewals is focussed on VMware unit. An effort to bring down headcount
Is this almost like a layoff but with more months before the time runs out?
Exactly
The wording purposely didn’t mention nor clarify severance from the email that I saw circulating the VMware blind
Broadcom new low.
They are denying the option of moving to home country and doing the job from there as well for most of us even when you have teams there.
Why not take a visa from consultant and still work at broadcom as a self consultant?
Rich you think consultants aren't getting affected much before any of this
This is how hock tan works. It’s not news and kinda expected. But they pay well, stock goes up a lot and very little fat/office politics/mid management. It’s all about stock and money, not culture not anything else. Just know what you are getting yourself into, your own priority and adjust expectation. Should be ok after the initial bloodbath passes
Nice
How?
How? There are way too many H1s here now.
There's going to be actual layoffs soon, most definitely.
Broadcom being the high flying stock in recent years and hearing many making almost like faang tc there; is this a real news? Seems like they got budget issues and the grass is not green at all at the side of Broadcom
Budget issues? I think this was all part of the plan when they bought VMWare.
I don’t think it is about 2-3k required to file the visa. They want to layoff without paying severance.
