Joined Zillow yesterday and they have a very weird policy that Heath coverage starts from 1st of the month after you joined. MSFT coverage stops on the last day of your employment, so right now I’m out of insurance. I don’t anticipate going to the doctor in the next 20 days, but should I take the COBRA coverage before I need to visit? How does it work? If I need to go to an emergency, can I still pay cobra premium and get the coverage I need? Tc: 300k
I heard you can apply retroactively, though ive never tried.
You have 60? days to enroll in COBRA. You can retroactively pay those premiums before that time is up and be covered for past incidents. Honestly not sure if now being employed messes with that though. COBRA can be a pain
Cobra is retroactively available for up to 60 days. You’re fine - if something goes wrong, enroll, if not you will be under the new insurance in less than a month.
Lapse of coverage can bite you in the ass later. Pay the month, just do it
You have 60 days to enroll in cobra so pay nothing now and you can enroll from your hospital bed should the need arise
That is not a weird policy. It’s better than some.
Can you explain “better than some”? Just curious
Nah, just be extra cautious. I went to India between gigs with no insurance.
