Lets say your performance review is meets or exceeds expectations, you're approaching your first year vesting date, and your manager finds out that you are interviewing (directly or indirectly) - What are the chances you get fired before your stock vests? For all intents and purposes let's say it's a big NYC/CA based tech company and the stock vest is ~50K
They can fire you at anytime for no reason at all in most states
but in reality does this ever happen? it seems like an easy way to get sued for some sort of discrimination if theres no paper trail
I would say definitely not…you’re just as safe as anybody would be
I don't imagine you would get fired for interviewing elsewhere. But I would expect you're on the list of people to layoff if the company has to downsize.
that's a fair tradeoff
How they will find out ?
in a perfect world they wouldn't but in reality it's easy for them to get a strong suspicion or find out through the grapevine
Suspicion shouldn’t cause firing .. what is manager wrongly guess it .. he/she will not react based on just suspicion and trying to save vesting date money which is not in there control .. so even if they know they will not do anything in normal world other than they will plan to de risk criticle activities
