Hi Everyone, I have been developing on the ServiceNow platform for about 5 years now, and I write mostly in Javascript. Even though the pay is decent and the job itself isn't hard, I find myself losing interest in it. ServiceNow makes it really easy to develop on their platform and their main focus is to make it as low-code as possible, and I love writing code so this is probably why I am starting to lose interest. When I first started, I had opportunities to do more integrations and write more code compares to what I do now, which mostly is just configuring and general administration stuff. I can make the switch to consulting for a better pay and more opportunities to work on projects but I don't like the aspects of being a consultant. So, I was thinking about making a career move to become a SWE sometime in the third/fourth quarter of next year, the obvious choice for me is to grind LeetCode and I can already tell I have a lot of work to do because the first few questions I looked at on LC, I had no idea how to solve it. My questions then are: 1) Am I making the right move or is there a better career path? 2) What should I aim for in terms of levels? L1, L2, L3, etc...? 3) My goal is to achieve a TC of 200k+ when I make the move, even better if I can work for the big tech companies. Is this achievable or am I being unrealistic? I want to have some sort of financial freedom and start building my Net worth. Thank you in advance for your help! I really appreciate it! TC: 125K #tech #swe #servicenow #leetcode #faang
I guess you could also consider solutions engineering type roles but those are really more like consulting
$200k is possible with the platform. Keep doing what you're doing and look at getting a second job doing more pure SWE and collect two paychecks while you learn the ropes.
Are you talking about freelance jobs? Or like a true second job? Do you know of any websites for this purpose that you can recommend?
A true second job working with your new stack. Find a jr role, keep the SN gig too, and then after a year find a full SWE role somewhere.
Even I want to switch from this snow developer profile ? Can you please help me out ?

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
Why not be a servicenow architect? Or transition to something like salesforce that is similar.
I thought about this approach, but from what I can see, it is hard to reach my TC goal, unless I work for ServiceNow as a solution architect or SWE (which would require me to know more than what I know now in terms of coding). If I work for other companies that use ServiceNow, we are ultimately just the "end-users" and I don't see where I can progress after that. I guess what I am trying to say is, I want to code and I want jobs that are actually building the software, not customizing it, whether it'd be ServiceNow, Salesforce, etc...
