The conflict between Israel and Palestine is a complex and long-standing one. It has its roots in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Jewish immigration to Palestine, then part of the Ottoman Empire, began to increase. Here's a simplified overview: 1. **Pre-20th Century:** Jews and Arabs coexisted in the region for centuries, but tensions increased with the rise of nationalist movements in the late 19th century. 2. **British Mandate:** After World War I, the League of Nations granted Britain control of Palestine. During this period, Jewish immigration increased, leading to tensions with the Arab population. 3. **UN Partition Plan (1947):** The United Nations proposed a partition plan to divide Palestine into Jewish and Arab states. The plan was accepted by Jewish leaders but rejected by Arab leaders, leading to the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. 4. **Creation of Israel (1948):** Israel declared its independence, and neighboring Arab countries invaded. The war ended in 1949 with armistice agreements and significant territorial changes. 5. **Six-Day War (1967):** Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, and the Sinai Peninsula in a preemptive strike against neighboring Arab states. 6. **First Intifada (1987-1993) and Oslo Accords:** Palestinian protests against Israeli rule led to negotiations and the signing of the Oslo Accords, which established limited Palestinian self-rule in parts of the West Bank and Gaza. 7. **Second Intifada (2000-2005):** Renewed violence, including suicide bombings and Israeli military operations, derailed peace efforts. 8. **Gaza Conflict (2007-Present):** The militant group Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007, leading to a blockade by Israel and Egypt. This has resulted in sporadic conflicts and tensions in Gaza. 9. **Peace Efforts:** Numerous peace initiatives and negotiations, including the Camp David Accords and the Annapolis Conference, have taken place, but a comprehensive peace agreement has remained elusive. 10. **Current Situation:** The conflict continues with periodic escalations of violence, settlement expansion, and disputes over Jerusalem's status. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains a deeply rooted and complex issue with historical, political, religious, and territorial dimensions. Achieving a lasting solution has proven to be a formidable challenge, and the situation continues to evolve.
I am worried about the cycle of hate :(. I only started learning about things recently. I didn't know Palestine was a country with systems and all sorry for the ignorance. But I think this may be a big issue: this conflict will continue eternally if the country/state itself is in big turmoil internally as I read (I am not sure if Abbas and Hammas work together. I see a Fatah-Hammas conflict And I am reading about corruption etc). I am also so confused as I see other Arab Muslim countries are enemies of "hammas" as well lol. Until there's a uniform front, maybe Palestine itself has a form of stable government like Israel (which seems to be a more stable government), things will keep on getting dirty. So sad
Good on your for trying to learn about it. Palestinian narrative: israel expelled Palestinians from their land and created a refugee crisis. They blockaded the Gaza Strip and turned it into an open air prison which is why Hamas (Hamas and abbas/fatah are rivals and hate each other) launches rockets at Israel and is executing the current attack. Israel narrative: land was given to Jews by British mandate, increase in land obtained through victory in wars Arabs started against it. Blockade and occupation needed to prevent acts if terrorism. It’s a complex problem and usually if someone says one side is good and one side if wrong they don’t know anything.
Thanks for sharing more info Uber. I doubt any population actually wants war (both Israeli and Palestinians). I sense other things at play here (corruption and negative zeal of a few corrupting the minds of the population). Add to that instability and oppression from the other side here and there (which further "confirms" the hate spewed by the corrupt instigator), and you end up with a powder keg that keeps on exploding. Super glad that our back and forth are respectful @Uber. I am worried some folks will start attacking us at any moment so I am going to be silent from now on and just listen (or read). Thanks again, I appreciate it
This is the first constructive discussion I ever saw on Blind regarding the topic, I salute you all 🙌 Edit: The war is a generational war, if you’ve watched Attack on Titan, I think its the closest to what’s happening between Israel and Palestiniens
Chat GPT got a number of details wrong. It just shows that history is written by the victors, and the victors usually cover up their crimes https://youtu.be/SuvUo3Ub1aY?si=VLv2YdSw0NgX2szi

BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
Yes it is complicated :). Also see attached for people claiming Israel is committing “genocide”. They’ve grown more than the world population since that time on average.
Ok so israel is allowed to imprison and kill them as long as there is a net increase in population. Nice one Uber
They’re allowed to imprison and kill people who blow up busses. And murder innocent festival goers and then parade their body through the streets of Gaza. As you are witnessing right now. Like any other country would. Nice amazon.
