Hey guys I noticed a lot of companies gave a massive bumps to their employees and high salary offers to whom recently switched jobs ( I assume demand for civil engineers are growing as boomers retire/ recent inflation) how much do you guys make? I am thinking about switching jobs and your honest reply would be gladly appreciated I will go first. Transportation engineer - 4 yrs/$93k base @stantec @aecom @hdr @Jacobs @hntb @atkins
Perhaps you can get into the Sales/SE side of construction software? They probably make good $$. Just a thought I recently switched and got a 100% bump in my base. Comissions’s extra
You should look to switch to some firms that do Data Science on Traffic Engineering like Iteris or StreetLightData. Probably gonna get some bump in pay and you still work in related professions
I actually did this! I just got a product manager role at a traffic focused company. Went from 110k as a traffic engineer to 145k TC as a PM.
113k Bridge Engineer - 5 1/2 years of experience with a PE
Very nice to meet you. Good to see another civil engineer here. Nice! I don’t think I can go from 93 to 113 in the next 1.5 yrs if I just stay here cuz all I have is 3.5% annual raise. Do you consider your salary to be pretty normal? Or higher or lower compared to the industry average (if you happen to actually know your colleagues salary similar to your background)
I think I'm probably a little bit above average since I switched jobs earlier this year. I went from 90k to 113k. Merit raises are always bad. Btw live in a low cost area where 1 bedroom apartments go for ~1500/month. Are you in a cheap or expensive area? How about work from home policies at Statntec? At Parsons, it depends on your office but generally they are very flexible with working from home.
Wfh is one thing I can brag about. However, I don’t think it’s necessarily a Stantec thing. It all depends on your team/direct supervisor not the company (not even the office). Stantec is pretty flexible in general but my friend who works in NY office gets to whf only twice a week while I go into office only once a week. But again it’s not cuz I am in a different office. Even within our office, the other team, Roadway group is forced to show up to office at least 4days a week. I am in traffic group and my boss is very cool. We only go into office once a week. How is wfh situation at Parsons? - but after all Stantec allows wfh at least once a week across the nation and I think it’s considered flexible (I think the roadway group in our office is the most strict team in the nation and idk why. All the other offices in US probably allow at least 2days/week)
Oh and I live in a place where the rent for 1 bed is ~$2000/month I think this is pretty standard everywhere you go unless you live in CA or NY
I have one year of experience , I just completed my masters and I am at TC 90k
That's pretty good actually. You probably in an expensive area. I started around 60k in 2016 .. but in a cheap city.
Wow.. I am really starting to feel like I got low balled. I am 4+ yrs and 93k.. do you mind telling which city you are in?
Transportation Engineer here working at Stantec. US experience 2 yrs, Foreign experience 3 yrs. EIT. Pursuing PE. $85K Base
Nice to meet you. I work at Stantec as well. When you had the interview/ got the offer, did they count your number of years from outside of US?
They did not count the outside work experience. I joined as entry level with less salary. But then our team realised the potential and I got 2 raises ( 1 standard annual raise + 1 extra) within first year of employment!
