Hi all, I'm considering a move to either company (see offers below). One factor that has me worried right now is the state of the economy, and the potential for layoffs. I know that the first thing to go in a recession is travel which worries me about Airbnb. I realize Airbnb is a little more resilient than say a hotel company, because people might lose their home and need to rent an Airbnb temporarily, or rent out a spare room to get some extra income, but still they will be affected. The crypto market is also hurting right now which makes me concerned about CB. I also know that Google made it through the 08 crisis without any layoffs, just a hiring freeze, so it seems like the "safer" move to stay at Google. Anybody have thoughts about this? I've never been a part of a round of layoffs, so I'm not sure what criteria companies look at when deciding who to cut. I'd assume tenure (I'd be new) and seniority (Sr SWE) get factored in, but I don't know how I'd fit in. US Citizen, so no H1B worries, but still scared of layoffs. I think right now is a great time to switch jobs. Stocks are hitting all time lows, your offer today could be worth 3x-4x in a couple of years.
What if the market keeps dropping?
It will until it won’t. Can’t time it but great companies with solid fundamentals we’ll be back at hitting all time highs again.
Are both Canadian offer ? I see CAD numbers for Coinbase.
US. I copy/pasted, not sure why they wrote that up in CAD.
Are you on H1B? I know it’s difficult to take decisions in such economy. However, inflation and recession is different than pandemic, I don’t see why people won’t travel and rent out airbnbs (those who have money are less worried).. However, coinbase is something I would be worried about in this economy (similar to Robinhood).
I'm a citizen. So I guess a little less to worry about than an H1B but still, layoffs are scary.
Are you a L4 currently?
Yea L4
Crypto is getting crushed right now. I wouldn’t join Coinbase. You can always get into a crypto company later, if the market rebounds and the company is still growing
What location is Airbnb offer for?
NY. Updated post.
Coinbase won’t survive this next year
Didn't they say the same in 2017
At least this Meta guy says this in every post. Probably got rejected from CB.
Did you end up going to Coinbase?
Some pretty strong biases showing there.
Screw coinbase 1 year grants and go for airbnb
Your title says Airbase. Did you mean Airbnb?
lmao, thank you. Monday morning 😴
