I’m a recent grad, working as a contractor. Since the chances to convert are low I been interviewing, got offer from Amazon and have Microsoft and Google onsite next month (but not holding my breath). Amazon TC is way higher than my contract TC (100k). But if I had a choice Google > Apple > Microsoft > Amazon. How can I ask to be converted to fulltime? I’m not really a top performer among contractors but don’t really want to lose this chance. Also, any tips for Google onsite? Amazon was all LC easy and medium.
Been in your shoes, chances of conversion to FTE are slim but worth the try. Talk to the manager and tell about the Amazon offer, be ready to leave as 95% chance they won't offer you what you want, even if they do want to convert, not a lot of room to negotiate compensations.
In this economy , with market crashing , I think it’s a good move to go FTE instead of contractor
Have you applied for jobs on CoolJobs? I have never been a contractor or worked with a contractor so I’m not sure if you are able to apply for jobs internally....
I was not aware of that but I actually can access and apply internally. I assumed there was some more formal entry level posting like Amazon/Google/MSFT has. Looks like there are a lot of jobs I meet qualifications for but different teams than my current one. Thanks
You’re welcome! Glad I could help. You also may want to follow up with an email to the recruiter and hiring manager along with your resume after applying for each position.
