Laid off last year by Meta after joining only 1 month, got offers from 2 companies that have both filed H1B transfer. Need advice on which one to join. Really appreciate any advice! Thank you! Starbucks: hybrid in Seattle (I’m already in Seattle), tc ~155k Pros: although not tech but still big name, all team members really nice during the interviews, feels like I can stay for a long time Cons: H1B got RFE and the lawyer is acting slow, not sure what’s the risk of offer getting rescinded or RFE rejected, hate the uncertainties after being laid off A healthcare company for specialty prescription (the name has never appeared on Blind): fully remote, tc ~144k Cons: small company, Glassdoor review 3.0 Pros: H1B has been approved and they want me to start 03/27, not sure if I can extend the date to wait for Starbucks a little. #layoff #datascientist
Do you already live in Seattle?
Yes.
Unless you want to move out of Seattle, Starbucks seems like the better offer, especially considering you liked the people and such. But maintaining legal status is important so try to get Starbucks to expedite things so they’re done before your start date at the other company. And ask the other company how late you can start too? The TC is pretty similar though so it’s no big deal either way imo
Healthcare company no brainer
Is it because of my legal status?
Yes and pay is also ok
Which company? Healthcare?
It’s called connectiverx.
What types of project starbucks have? Just curious Is it supply chain related or?
My position is sales forecasting, like time series forecasting, but I’m sure they have supply chain related project.
Join startup. And keep interviewing.
Thanks. I’m just a little exhausted from all the layoff troubles and wished I could stay at a spot for at least 2 years…
I’d have said Join Starbucks but I don’t know if you should risk an RFE here
join Starbucks, more stable company in this environment. you never know what happens with the small healthcare startup
Thanks! Do you think if RFE is a big risk or it should be resolved fine?
it should be fine... but ask your lawyers
Starbucks. After 10 years you get 6 months off, which is about how long it will take to get your GC.
That’s surely a long view lol. Thank you!
Do you know why Starbucks h1b got an RFE?
It’s SO, specialty occupation, and the lawyer asked for an experience verification letter and how my undergrad/grad courses are related to my job duties.
I don't know about the immigration related aspects but I am enjoying my time at Starbucks so far. Very chill people and atmosphere, and everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming. There is a fair bit of angst around RTO, but Starbucks is hardly unique in that area.
I know! I enjoyed the whole interview process. All interviewees were nice and professional. Thank you for sharing your experience working there!
Maintain your legal status, that should be the high priority.
Yes that makes sense. It’s just I personally prefer Starbucks and I wish the lawyer could have acted faster.
