I got two offers to compare, Meta DS ic4 vs Nordstrom Sr. DS. Compensations are very similar. Both are in Seattle and have remote options. I am very struggling with the choices as both are good opportunities for DS roles. For Meta, I love the big name, the opportunity to tech company, fast-learning, smart peers, etc, but I am a bit concerned about the very likely busy workload, peer pressure, long working hours. For Nordstrom, I learned the WLB is good, I am assuming the work and tech stack could be similar to my current company. WLB is the biggest reason why I am hesitating, especially with a young baby at home, and do want to have more time with family. Hard choice for me. How will you choose and what's your consideration? #meta #nordstrom #compensation #wlb
Meta has been all push for me. I’m tired and over it. Voting Nordstrom.
Thanks for your comment. Is the workload at Meta really heavy? How would you describe it? My Meta DS friend told me so and making me nervous about it.
Why make it either or. You can have your cake and eat it if you go to Meta first and then switch to Nordstrom later. You will work harder at Meta, but in exchange you will become a better DS in a short period of time. Having Meta on your resume will also make you more valuable to recruiters and give you more leverage on comp.
Nordstrom from the sale discounts
Remove the sign on from the equation or at least spread it out over 4 years. Meta comp is slightly higher. But more importantly, Meta has large refreshers, don’t know about Nordstrom but probably none?
Yoe?
I'm at Nordstrom now and have coworkers who have gone to Meta. They have gotten pay increases and significant workload increases when moving over. Your TC offers are pretty similar, so you have to decide what you value more right now. Both companies are good names and will be there in the future - time with your baby will be what you potentially give up, though kids require your attention at all ages so this is more than just a 1-2 year moment in time. The WLB, great culture, and people I get to work with every day are all things I love about Nordstrom.
