How is dallas job market for H1B holders? Seem mostly banks sponsor and I think Walmart. Anything else? 200K
AWS has offices in Dallas, consulting firms as well.
Just ops roles and some insignificant dev roles. All members in a Dallas sister team got taken out in the recent layoffs. Nothing major happens in Dallas offices.
Ugh :(
It's tough. You're unlikely to get in off the street as a direct employee of an American company unless you have a really specialized hard to find skillset. Plenty of body shop contractor roles, but those are shitty employers with no career or salary growth. If you get selected for a role at Citi the onboarding period is insanely long and they will insist last-minute on a huge certification like RHCSA or Amazon Cloud. They could've been courteous and told you at selection, but instead they'll wait till HR finally approves. They will want that certification within 30 days or you will be off boarded. Your Citi manager will insist that the ridiculous requirement is the body shop's and the body shop will blame Citi. Your Citi manager is lying to you, it really is the bank. After you've waited 90 or more days to finally get a badge and come onsite it may take another month to get the correct VDI to do any work. The default VDI at Citi doesn't retain system state and actively blocks all TCP/IP connections that aren't from MS office or the web browser. Good fucking luck getting the right one, it's highly dependent on which body shop you work for. All the banks have either entirely returned to office or are in the last stages of a boil-the-frog gradual forced return. Government IT jobs pay peanuts in Texas. They might sponsor but the compensation is generally super low for what's expected. If you do land a job here, don't get a first floor apartment. DFW is built on clay that expands and contracts. Apartment buildings are built on slab foundations with plumbing pipes embedded in the concrete. Sewer leaks are common, and you'll need to suddenly move if the leak is under your unit.
Who hurt you?
As an American citizen with no degree and self taught, very entry level, can you recommend some of these body shop contractors so I can start cutting my teeth for a paycheck instead of just working on projects? I can’t do more than a couple of leetcode easy at this point and I need to eat.
Very bad, been trying to move to Dallas as my family is here. Only getting rejections, no interviews, even with a good experience.
Dallas has enough opportunities, Chase, SevenEleven, Citi, American Airlines, Amazon, Walmart to name a few and all of them sponsor, but the population in Dallas is 4x Job Size, especially after Covid.
+1 on the population growth. Too much competition here these days
SevenEleven doesn’t sponsor
Living here for over a year, only Management consulting firms, telecom firms and capital one hire H1Bs. Tech jobs here require many years of experience
Capital one doesn't hire h1b
C1 can hire h1b but only for Senior Manager + in Tech, Director+ for some job families
Worst place to find a job. Bloated house prices and running into assumptions that they get MAANG and all.. don’t even think. Beyond that worst climate
American Airlines sponsor. Plenty of openings too
I was told they don't when I applied back in February
Weird. They most definitely do, maybe its dependent on the dept/team. Just say you don’t need sponsorship till you join i guess?
Not a good idea to move Dallas right now. There are very little opportunities
It is a bit tough here nowadays. I believe JPMC is not sponsoring, GS pays is like a 💩, and Walmart is willing to hire senior level SWE/DS only. Also, there is an MS office in Dallas (Irving area)~
I think the MS office in Irving is pretty heavily leaned toward sales.
