My wife just got an offer from Deloitte. She is currently a senior consultant at an investment bank and prior to this she has been in a senior consultant at another company for 4 year. Deloitte initially said that they were interviewing her for a senior role but based on the interview they down leveled her to a consultant position. Any advice on how she can negotiate with the recruiter for a senior role and higher base? YOE 9 years (4 years as a senior consultant) Base at Deloitte 130k #finance #offer #deloitte #consultant
Unless she is desperate to switch then she should just turn it down. At this point in her career she should be shooting for a manager position.
9 YOE should get her an SC role at D but if the experience is not relevant or impactful then C is realistic…..I’ve seen people join at C with 15 years too ….the real question is why Deloitte and what is she looking for from the role? Budging on title will be tough and it should be secondary….you can push for TC in the 150-160 range either with competing offers or walk away threat
I think asking for $160k would be a good number and reasonable.
Turn down the offer.
Honestly they down-leveled her based on feedback from the interviews. I’ve been in those review sessions and they really weigh in on perspectives from all 3 interviewers to decide this so it’s not bias.
Yeah, negotiating a level is super hard. If she didn’t perform well enough in interview they aren’t going to change their mind. Means they don’t see her as ready to lead, best she can do is negotiate for higher salary. Also, they must be seeing her experience as not directly relevant - so while 9yoe is high for C, they only look at relevant YOE
Turn down the offer
She has to negotiate or don't take offer. If she take offer, she is accepting the value they impose upon her vs her true value. There are a lot of opportunities out there. Deloitte is not the end.
9 years with a consultant role, i think you should turn down the offer
IB to deloitte doesn't appears right unless she's very interested.
