So, since Walmart is expanding in India like crazy. Now, this sounds good, but the way recruiters are shortlisting candidate's profile is crazy, like there is no background check at all. I've had my issues with Walmart but I had been ignoring since it didn't matter much and let's be honest there is no perfect workplace culture company out there (if there is, please do let me know). For the last 2 weeks a bunch of us have been interviewing people and we literally couldn't shortlist a single candidate, it's not like we are asking them Hard LC questions, we just ask basic DS questions, we've been spending 5 hours per week interviewing only to see people being rejected. Not sure if its the budget problem with Walmart or some other reason but the interviewing panel has been demotivated due to this. I've seriously started to wonder why did I join this company seems like they don't care about the quality of engineers being hired, they just want to get the job done. Has anyone else in Walmart or any other company faced this? Any big good companies out there also doing this? TC: 30LPA YOE: 3.5 #walmart
Surprised folks aren't able to solve LC questions given how many codechef monkeys I see on my LinkedIn TL
Rather than participating in these useless interviews, you should start your own loops and leave. All the best 🤘
When I was working at Walmart bangalore and was in interview panel(I was IN4 so used to interview same or lower level candidates), I felt that leadership is not focused on maintaining good working culture, better work life balance and a decent bar of hiring. The managers and above are only focused on delivering projects in any way and any cost to beat their counter parts in US and thus triggering their own growth. Hiring managers used to give a go ahead for candidates who were out and out rejected at first and then on second chance they were at most borderlines. I did not like the culture at all and I left within an year. They definitely need better leaders and better managers.
It is a combination of low salary, and diminishing brand image. Walmart was a solid brand when it came to India initially in around 2013 ish. But in the core it is a merchant and not a tech company, they apply the same to the people they hire. Going for cheaper profiles even if they are not from stellar backgrounds, not doing anything to retain exceptional talent.
Walmart is total shit I agree. Quality of work is shit. Management is shit. No WLB.
Don't bother mate. I was with Walmart. I have seen it first hand. My friend, one of the most solid engineers I know had an offer from Amazon with great pay but for some personal reasons he was hesitant so he had not accepted that offer. He was asked to take an interview of some candidate, he did. He was asked to give feedback which he did( feedbacks were collected on paper, literally, this was 2 years back. Not sure if it's the same now), and the recruiter took it upon himself to correct his rating (no hire) and advanced that candidate into the next round. When my friend found this out by accident he couldn't believe how unethical it was, he complained to the hiring manager but his complaint was brushed off. He resigned later that week because in his words he couldn't work in a place where such practices were tolerated. We were pushed to pass candidates by managers because all they cared about was to close the position ASAP. I have seen recruiters pushing the interviewers to give a "hire" even if their rating was "no hire" by asking them to see the candidate's attitude and give them "hire" if the attitude was good. This was for SWE role. It's a pathetic workplace. Don't bother. Leetcode and get into a better company, there are many out there and actively hiring. All the best
