It is no secret that workplaces want to diversify their staff for obvious reasons and plenty of benefits. There are even companies that have specialized diversity recruiters who only seek out people from underrepresented communities to fill roles. Not saying other are overlooked but these people pump in more underrepresented talent into a pool of candidates for one role. There are no special treatment besides that they are being targeted. My question is, if you are someone who is black, Latinx, have a disability, from LGBTQ community, etc…would you be offended if someone with a title “diversity recruiter” were to reach out? I have heard both sides: one being that they do not care at all and happy a company cares that much to have a dedicated person seek them out and the other side of feeling offended with the thought that they are only being reached out to because of their race, gender, etc. to reach company quotas in diverse talent and wondering if it’s their skills the company is interested in or their diverse background Any thought? Keep it neutral to just “recruiter” or “diversity recruiter” ok…. responses from underrepresented folks preferred please 😅 (female, black, Latinx, etc) Thank you!###recruiting #hiring #hiring #hiring #jobopening #recruiting
I’m gay and while being approached by a “diversity recruiter” wouldn’t offend me, I’d prefer to not be treated as a diversity candidate who needs special attention. I want the same things out of my job and life in general that most other people want. To add to this, I would always wonder if the company who approached me truly liked my resume and thought I would be a great fit for the job OR if I was just a way for them to check a box so they can say they have a diverse workforce. But then again I don’t bother with crap like pronouns or flag emojis on LinkedIn, so they probably wouldn’t know I’m gay.
So you're straight passing then?
Isn't that like cultural appropriation of straight culture?
Only an idiot would be upset at good opportunities because the intention behind it is not what they want Don’t care why someone would hire me, unless it could negatively impact my progression at the company
I concur. They obviously want you on the team, too. I don't have an issue with referrals, so I have no complaints about DEI hiring.
I would love to be reached out to by a diversity recruiter
Not at all, being a diversity hire has opened so many doors for me
Targeted diversity hiring is a scam…giving opportunity to diverse group of candidates is different from just hiring them..merit must be upheld regardless
There is no merit in hiring after they introduced referrals, only a dufus would believe that meritocracies exist outside of controlled environments in our society
One thing I like in amzn is role of BR in an interview loop(at least in theory)…irrespective of bg of candidate, bar shouldn’t go down
Stop saying Latinx. It’s not a real word. The gender neutral term in Spanish is Latine. My wife is a Latina, and her family is Latino, and proudly so. First rule of diversity, don’t colonize the languages of other cultures by trying to force English language norms on them.
I've seen arguments between woke white people and actual Latinos about the term Latinx and it was hilarious.
History repeats itself, the colonial mindset is too strong.
It’s too early in the am to read your rants, can you fucking summarize it on like 3 lines? Thank you
Wouldn't bother me because based on the quality of work I produce I know I'm much more than just a diversity hire anyway. First job out of college was a programmer at Walmart where I got hired by a black recruiter looking for diverse talent. Very grateful for that opportunity to kick off my career especially during that tough time in the job market (recruited late 2001...started early 2002).

No not offended, it’s what keeps me employed and gives me an edge over the competition. I’m an Engineering Project Manager, TC 362k.
Must be nice. I’m Indian so, we get no benefits whatsoever ever. Sometimes people want to get rid of me. I get why bc there’s so many Indians. Good for you though. I wish you a great future.
Yep why would diverse candidates reject one of the very few advantages they have in life especially when hiring practices aren’t always necessarily meritocratic and rife with favoritism and nepotism
