Do you think they are less opinionated or don’t perform as well?
No
Of course not
No
Hello No.
I have other things to worry about than the gender of the engineers on my team. Got to make sure they grow their careers, are happy, deliver their code on time, don't design terrible things that won't be maintainable, figure out our roadmap for the next quarters, advocate for our team, etc.
+1
Can I come work for you?
No. I had worked with women engineers who were really talented. I feel motherhood and family commitments makes them stagnated at work. If they can overcome it, they can be more successful than they are today(I am not generalizing every women, atleast 50% of them)
Wouldn't it be great if father's shared more of the caregiving role? Just because women birthed the kid does Not mean they are defacto saddled with the caregiving responsibility. I asked my future husband (SWE) if he wanted to stay home and raise our kids when we were dating. He said no. I told him, I don't mind popping the kids out, but I can't work bring home the bacon (I was doing 3x+ as him when we meet) , and be primary caregiver. He said no, so we don't have kids 🙂
I feel You both could have shared the responsibility of taking caring of the kid but still this is your own preference and decision, I respect that.
I have a few female colleagues in my current team. Except one, everyone is pretty good at what they do. So it is just the individual's drive for quality and excellence. Gender is not a factor.
Usually similar efficiency but from my experience, men work longer hours on average
Longer hours doesn’t justify the quality of work unless or until it’s a on call support. Women take less breaks than men 😜
The bar is higher for men to meet the same standard...so I see them putting in more time because of it
