Why I Find Free Palestine Inspiring
Are you in UXD and love it/hate it? why? Or do you wish you could be in UXD, or would tell others to avoid it? Let me know why you might live or hate it! Thinking of switching careers to UXD but dont want to put in 2 years of schooling to find out its a boring/unfulfilling job. Went to a UXD meetup and received lukewarm responses. would like honest responses here!
We don't usually call it UXD, but UX design is a great field. Empathetic and passionate and supportive peers.
That is interesting and good to know. The University close to me frequently uses UXD for their master’s program. Was unaware thanks. You would say a large portion of the job is connecting with, understanding and interacting with others? So it is important, for lack of a better term, to be a “people person”?
Schools are run by people who've been out of the workforce for a while. Since communication is half of the job, you'll need to be good with people.
Also what do you mean lukewarm responses?
Does this mean you do not have an official degree in it? How did you land your job? Good portfolio? A related degree? Yes, when I asked whether they liked their job they skirted the question or said it was alright, not giving much detail (I wanted to press further but it was not a conducive environment). I asked people who worked at GE, Progressive, etc.
Lol... Where are you located? I haven't met that, most designers here are quite happy to talk about their work. At the same time we get inanundated with questions all the time from (kind of desperate) people trying to break in. People just want to take, take, take your time and often there's no real gratitude. That's probably why they shut down or become dismissive... You have to keep in mind everyone's lifetime is valuable to them, at a certain point if you're just taking and not giving value back, they feel used. You'd be surprised how more appreciative people are when they pay for time vs free.
I love uxd people. They make my work (coding) look and work so much better. I dunno how I would feel about doing it myself. I certainly don't have a talent for it.
This is helpful, thank you! What do you mean by talent? I’m relatively new to the field so knowing what one might think is an important skill or talent will help me. Thanks!
I dunno. Creativity in that kind of work. Empathy to be able to put urself in a users shoes and think from their perspective ... More something I can't put my finger on b
