Hi I have just received an offer from EY for a Senior Consultant S4 - Data Science. It will be my first time in consulting and I have no clue what to expect. I am inclined towards EY as it gives me a favorable location as my home office. I’m my current job at Ford as a Data Scientist I work for max 25hrs/wk which is fine but they want me to move to Detroit which is a huge No-No for me. Please help me understand the pros and cons EY offer : Base 160k Bonus 10k No stock Current TC: Base 115k Bonus 15k YOE : 5 yrs #tech #data #datascientist #datascientistsalary #datascientisttc #consulting #ai
You're gonna regret it, find something else while you still can
Jeez seems a big response from EY people. I mean I have heard consulting is a bit of selling your soul. What's your reason for warning OP off because I had been considering a stint down the line.
In terms of Offer, It is good but working hours would jump upto 50 and sometimes beyond it . Definitely lot to learn and solve problems
It’s more that I make as a manager
And yet the guy below you claims it's a low-ball.... Hard to tell what's real in this market anymore.
It’s a lowball offer
It’s not a lowball offer for EY, and especially for Detroit, MA. You are offered S4 so promotion is likely to happen in a year or two to manager level. Definitely good offer and designation based on YOE and EY standards. But work load will increase and your tech experience won’t receive any special focus, if a consultant or PMO making strategy slides is closer to partner or to your clients as they schedule the meetings they will get the bump faster. Basically traditionally it’s been a business consulting firm, so the firm mostly does not recognize how tech skills differentiate and help with client buy in. Recently they have hired many skilled people on data practice but the org overall just does not understand the importance of tech skills and it’s depth as an important dimension, IMO. So some of the best technically skilled folks are leaving. They pay decent but these days a lot of companies do the same or better with better WLB, and you are in that sweet spot of 5-10 YOE.
All of that is true, but I do feel the offer can be better. I have 1-2 yoe and I’m being offered 160K+ in a new role (again validating your comment about tech). Naturally based on that I feel there is room for negotiation and becoming closer to the 200k mark, specially for S4
Don’t move, I’m the group. It’s a toxic place!!!
Hmm probably… I’m actually happy where I am. Good work life balance, relaxed client, good data science and engineering work. You just gotta be around the right people in the right domain.
WLB highly project dependent. But practice leadership/managers are absolutely toxic
You might not know this until you get in. But apart from the pay, you mostly can’t invest in a lot of well performing stocks due to independence issues. They are terrible with increments other than for promotions. After a few months you will question yourself if you are really a tech guy anymore. I still think it’s a competitive offer and maybe you can improve on the joining bonus
I missed out on huge opportunities cause of this. Made me sell stock I held since 2010
ehhh it’s ok but could be better considering market
Don’t move but you might consider other company. Remember ey send all his people to travel. Ask this question on fishbowl, more consultants will be able to give you advices
