Help New Grad: Google vs Microsoft vs Palantir

Super lucky to have multiple offers on the table in this market. Help me with insights on which offer I should pick. I value impact, opportunity, rapid career growth, job security, agility to move across teams or other companies if needed, and long term TC (i.e promotions, refreshers, or even external transfers). Location does not matter. Yearly equity provided below, but total equity is as follows: Google: 90K Microsoft: 100K Palantir: 180K #engineering #software #new-grad #google #microsoft #palantir

NetApp cHAD67 Mar 17

Same here ..msft recruiters are like cia headhunters 😂 no idea how to get in touch with them .

lol right!

No idea why you’re even considering Microsoft. Lower pay, wlb, career growth, and resume brand than the other two. A couple years of doing good work at Google, you’ll be able to land an interview at most places. Make the correct longterm career decision here.

Just casting lines and seeing what bites. Appreciate the insight

Microsoft is not that much worse of a brand than Google or Meta. It depends on the type of work you're doing at each company. Working on the microsoft windows kernel will lead to entirely different future roles vs working on say Google maps frontend. If all you're looking for is to be a generalist SWE and cast the widest net, then yea go to Google.

Fuck Palantir

SpaceX crookedjoe Mar 15

Either you’re salty about the rejection or some girl working at palantir broke your little heart. Only 2 explanations for why you’re so obsessed with a company

Microsoft iLikeMyJob Mar 18

Palantir is evil, many folks have issues with what they do

Google on your resume helps set you up for better opportunities ($$$) once you get some experience

So you would say Google prestige > Palantir prestige?

Microsoft LFUCache Mar 15

Palantir is a really good location, but Google has higher prestige. Ngl man, would be a hard decision for me if I was a new grad

SpaceX vghdsp Mar 15

Choose based on team, type of work. Have new grad comps come down this much?

itTi38 OP Mar 15

Turned down SpaceX for base 120K… seems so 🤷‍♂️ market is tough

SpaceX vghdsp Mar 15

Yeah our base is low but stock appreciation has been amazing and expected to remain so. Huge investor demand. Plus we have buybacks/liquidity events so no need to wait for IPO. Most recent SWE new grads are at 200k+ comp.

Palantir is positioned to do well, AIP bootcamps are helping them acquire customers extremely fast

MongoDB omWL26 Mar 15

Yeah they’re enabling governments to kill people. You like working for murderers? Sick pervert.

Pure Storage fdkj13 Mar 15

Please do me a favor and short the stock & post a screenshot. It will really age well 😀

Palantir is trash

Politics aside, which is a better fit for the values I listed?

Block 스타트업 Mar 17

Google

Pure Storage fdkj13 Mar 15

None of the faang companies are actually doing business with a real mission statement (except Tesla). Palantir stands for western values. They helped fight terrorists in Afghanistan, recently supporting Ukraine & Iran. I see nothing wrong in that. On top of this, their commercial business is booming with cutting edge technology that is solving business use cases rather than providing incremental value like data warehouse or data lake products (ex snowflake/databricks)

MongoDB omWL26 Mar 15

You see nothing wrong with selling government surveillance systems that can be used to kill dissidents of the government or that sometimes kills the wrong targets? You really are a sick sick fuck.

Politics aside, which is a better fit for the values I listed? Would you say that Palantir offers rapid career growth compared to others?
