Employment Gap

How is the gap in employment construed ? My wife has around 3+ years experience on the Business/Program Management side but has a couple of yrs gap due to lack of work authorization. She recently got her EAD but hasn’t been getting any calls lately. I believe it’s due to the current situation but majorly has to do with the gap as she has a decent profile. Any thoughts ? I think it's due to non tech * non US (India?) work experience rather than gap in employment. All my friends' spouses face this, it takes hundreds of interviews over months. Non tech jobs with US experience take dozens of interviews over months. If you're a SWE, you've never faced this level of rejection on interviews and applications.

Put something fake in the gap. Like a fake startup she “worked” on to found. Put something on the Internet to show for it. In background check tell the truth.

That’s awful advice. I have seen someone do that before and was immediately rejected without interview and blacked listed. Gaps in career are normal. Hiding it just make a normal situation look bad.

As long as she learned something or did something during that gap that can be applied to her next job, she doesn’t really have a gap. Side job, extended education, managed the household, whatever it is. She can then list the things she did or learned that can be applied to her next job. All else fails, she can always write “personal sabbatical” on her resume.

She did some online learning that is transferrable and that was something she highlighted time and again. Maybe personal sabbatical is something that’s more agreeable to most folks. Thanks !!
