Canceling debt isn’t inflationary or costing tax payers
So I had my first job at IBM working on ML and Cloud however I was laid off after only 6 months (after explicitly being told by my manager I wouldn't). I found a job at a company in the middle of nowhere Illinois called John Deere. It's okay but my job is boring, the hours are long 11h+, the pay and benefits are not great. I'd really like to move frankly the area is very empty and cold even during the day and I'm a desert native, plus it has a deceptively high COL. I've been applying to companies I'm interested in: Microsoft (where most of my friends work), Tesla, Aptiv, Zoox, NVIDIA, Postmates. However despite having my friends who are a hiring manager at Amazon and SWE's at MSFT and Tesla nitpick my resume I've been getting nothing but rejections. Amazon is interviewing me for SDE I, but my Microsoft recruiter ghosted me and I have rejections from NVIDIA, Aptiv, and Zoox and numerous other places mostly startups or medium sized software companies in tech hubs. I was wondering if hopping jobs after such short times might be the possible reason and if so what I should do? My current company literally won't negotiate salary. (For context I spent 4 years in college working on Deep Learning and robotics for path planning. Do pretty well on Leetcode medium). I'm not trying to jump around but I just don't like where I live and I only took the job out of desparation. I just want a company with a better WLB somewhere more "happening".
If you perform well on tech screens and interviews, good companies won’t give a shit about your past. If you perform soso, its easy to use your lack of exp as an excuse to pass on you. Are you getting phone screens and interviews? Dont get discouraged if you’re just applying online and getting nothing, even thru referall. Job market is ass right now and you got people like me (11yoe in robotics) looking for jobs cause they got laid off (uber layoffs 😭🤣). I feel like its getting a little better tho. Keep applying young padayuan and remember: LEETCODE TILL YOUR EYES BLEED EVERYDAY AND REPEAT. Beat them at their own stupid game my dude. Know how to implement a trie with a heap with your eyes closed. Keep at it, opportunities will come. And as some random guy on blind said: Greatness is when preparation meets opportunity.
Tbh I haven't gotten into heavy applying quite yet. My friends at MSFT told me it was a sure thing since they hooked me up with a recruiter and talked to the hring managers so I was kinda hoping to stay there for a year to wait for the job market to even out. But their sure thing was a recruiter going on vacation for a month and then ghosting me and them for another month. I'm about to start really eating into Leetcode and applying next week.
Yeah, Uber has great advice. and even if the recruiter does get back to you, thats just an in for the phone screen, at which point the referral is now useless and you need to prove yourself (largely with leetcode)
