I was chatting with my school friend who is a Gynaecologist (she lives in Varanasi with her joint family). She was complaining that she has to work even during weekends, but she's ok as money is good. I asked her, the money she makes in one year. She said, about 100L. Now I've a lot of questions on the way I'm going. I think the only way to get really rich is by starting a company.
At Airbnb we recently offered senior engineer in Banglore 1.4cr CTC. It’s 40% higher than your gynecologist and they have to put in much less effort.
Lol kuchh bhi. 1cr is nothing for sde3 level these days.
Just because you got lucky and earning that much don't think everyone else earning the same. I know 15+ YOE earning barely 20L in IT industry. These 1cr salaries are only for less than 1% engineers.
So are most doctors. Most people only visit top 1% doctors. Rest bottom 99% earn way less than normal sde
What's her yoe?
1 crore in varanasi?
Yes. No rent
Sahi. Doctor’s Family business?
Ok
1 cr is still less if you compare the effort put to reach there as compared with SDE. 10 YOE SDE in product based earns that much but doctor struggles hard to crack NEET Mbbs, PG, DNB, etc. Their syllabus is 10x more than SDE. Competition is fierce. My brother is doctor with all degrees from govt medical colleges. The amount of hard work he put for 15 years, same amount of hard work by SDE in a year will place him into FAANG easily. Doctor is more about prestige and social service . ANOTHER difference is that they can't be laid off. Sde are in constant fear because they are earning more than they deserve.
Sdes Earning more than they deserve? Stop simping for drs and putting them on a pedestal. The average intelligence of someone in the cs/math fields is far higher. No dr would ever be able to create anything approaching AI etc. Only reason drs have prestige is because in the 3rd world there is no understanding of other high performing careers. Most drs would not be able to clear the bar at top engineering companies, lets be real its a totally different skillset.
I am talking from India perspective. Most of the 12th grad takes maths because being engineer is easier. I know many top ranked NEET qualified, Who had Maths as optional and they cracked IIT. Most of the medical aspirants keep maths as optional so that if they are unable to get into mbbs, engineering would come as byproduct. SDE Earning more than they deserve may not be right word to put but everyone agrees that SDE are overpaid. You can't compare brain surgery with some system design and some copy paste from stackoverflow. Tell me honestly, what amount of your daily time is spent in task requiring high skills and intelligence. As far as AI is concerned, father of deep learning AI Geoffrey Hinton had done real innovation. You are just using their Algo because electronics engineers has developed lot of capabilities to store and process data.
100L post tax?
Why some assumes that we all know what L or ruppes ratio to USD is..
“Segregate those people” 🙄
Bruh, even the lowest paying big tech company (Microsoft) pays more than that for Senior SDE(L64). And more importantly you can get to L64 with around 6-8 YOE, so at the age of around 27-29. Meanwhile what are doctors doing at 27? Studying, and in about 1 crore of debt.
What is 100L?
1 crore Indian rupees
In other words 10 million rupees
