Expected equity at unicorn in exec position

How much equity can be expected (%) in a unicorn startup post series E? As product director reporting into CPO? I know it’s hard to tell, but any rough ballparks would be great.

Max at 3%

That seems very high. 700 employees...

Maybe if you tell us the name of the unicorn, then we can give you a better estimate.

5 bps? I guess it depends if the company is still giving options or has switched to RSUs.

Google fBGA44 OP Nov 29, 2019

Ok, now we have a range between 0.05-3% :) I guess it’s hard to say...

3% is just stupid. A series E unicorn isn't going to give $30M+ in stock for a non-C-level role (or any role except maybe a new CEO really). Think a few $100K in stock per year with upside if the company's valuation goes up.

Really depends on the company. Some focus on giving ownership of the company and others focus on TC (using preferred share price most likely). I think a better question is what is the market TC for a product director at a post series E company

Google fBGA44 OP Nov 29, 2019

I see. Any guesses on TC?

Yep, being a series B or at most C stage executive hire can net equity in the % or fraction of %. I’m still likely one of the T50 common stock shareholders (I was T30 years ago, per the cap table) of my prior unicorn and I didn’t even stay for my full vesting period. When I see people getting jobs there now and posting their offers on here I just LOL a little inside because they don’t realize how minuscule the equity they’re striving for is compared to the 100’s of 1000’s of shares some folks like me got when it was a younger company. Timing is everything.

I would expect <0.1%.
