Expedia vs Microsoft

Hey all, I received a Expedia offer for SDE III (L) Austin: Base: 175k (up from 165k) RSU: 100k over 4 years (25k / yr) negotiated this up from 80k over 4 years Sign-on: 40k TC: yr 1: 240k, 200k every year following No annual bonus, but stock target is up 25k with no waiting vest time. I am currently at Microsoft with the following break down: Level: 60 Base: 125k (redmond based) RSU: 20k/ yr. Bonus: target 12-15% The catch here is that Microsoft recently stated that they were increasing merit percentages and targeting at least 25% for stock ranges for every level under 65. Before this update Microsoft has had a 10-15% decrease in salaries for people moving from Redmond to Austin. I am up for promotion this year which would get me to L61 (maybe L62 if I have Microsoft try to match). What do y'all think? YOE: 3.5 yrs Current TC: 145k #microsoft #expedia #software #austin UPDATE: Decided to take Expedia. MSFT wasn't willing to match since team I was trying to switch to was in a different org and that org "had no track record of me working specifically for them". Current team couldn't match because I was trying to switch out and reviews are already set.

When did you receive the Microsoft offer? I thought they were halting all offers until July.

I didn't. I am currently at Microsoft. That is the break down of what I am getting currently there.

Expedias base seems really good!! I myself am moving from G to Expedia. I think Expedia has really upped their comp lately and has a chill culture. Fun fact: they were owned by Microsoft in early 2000s

I have a bridge for sale too... Expedia has always tried to copy everyone else, but the worst aspects. The chill culture is just window dressing on whatever price you were sold for.

Then perhaps look for another role? Why are you still there?

Going to Expedia at this time seems very risky

Not sure about that. They already cut staff over pandemic and travel returning to normal. Even with recession ppl will travel. They haven’t had any rescinded offers or anything mentioned

+1 Expedia is the safest place to be at this time as they are short of staff and facing difficulties in new hires.

Is it standard to jump from MSFT60 to Exp SDE3? No flame, just wondering because I’m p3 at DS and got an uplevel offer for SDE3 at Exp as well…

Charles Schwab w33p OP Jun 17, 2022

I would say Expedia SDE III is equivalent to SDE 2 at Microsoft and other big tech companies. So I would say given you have YoE or really good interview skills; yes.
