FB/Insta listening to conversations. What the hell!?

Call me all sorts of names, troll me all you want and I know most of you don’t work on high-profile projects, just regular grunt CRUD stuff, but hear me out. Went to CVS today to get Tylenol. I tell my gf “I just got Tylenol”, bam! 5 minutes later, ad on Instagram about Tylenol. I asked my gf if she Google Tylenol or anything similar and she didn’t! I didn’t Google about it before getting it. This is just one of many such incidences where the ads are spookily precise. TC: $650k Yoe: 7.5 #tech #instagram #spying #listening

How’s your tc so high and you so dumb?

Google conspiraci OP Jun 9, 2022

O shutup! Just cuz you don’t have an answer?

LinkedIn San-Holo Jun 9, 2022

Nice

Meta dxrv11 Jun 9, 2022

It happens to me all the time, even though I don't grant permissions to Instagram's app and don't have a FB account. The only Meta app I grant permissions to microphone/camera/calls is WhatsApp 🤔, but AFAIK WhatsApp can't share user data with other Meta apps due to some legal stuff

Yep, Google is totally innocent here..

Told my gf I had a dream about ants, lo and behold later that day I got an from raid on IG. I'm not the conspiracy type but it's all just way too coincidental 🧐

Unity FriezaSama Jun 9, 2022

I've heard something similar. A friend from Canada was on a business trip to the USA and talked about taxes at the airport. The next few days she was getting American tax law consultancy ads.

It’s like when you buy a car, turns out on the road everyone has the same car too!

Living under a rock?

Apple djffk Jun 9, 2022

Device graphs? An app that you gave microphone access to is working with insta

Google conspiraci OP Jun 9, 2022

So WhatsApp then, clearly.

Apple djffk Jun 9, 2022

Not necessarily. There’s plenty of apps not owned by meta that are connecting your info. But yea what’s app would be my suspicion as well

It may not actually have been through the microphone. Apps use location services and Bluetooth beacons embedded in the stores to track you. You may have been targeted with the ad simply because you stood at the painkiller section. But yes, apps also use audio for ad targeting.

Google conspiraci OP Jun 9, 2022

So show me ad for CVS? Not precisely Tylenol?

Aimia yXTt77 Jun 10, 2022

Tylenol could be targeting people who recently visited CVS stores. Are you really this dense? You don’t deserve your TC
