Facebook: Software Engineer, Infra vs Software Engineer Product
What is the difference between Software Engineer, Infra vs Software Engineer, Product at Facebook? Is SWE Infra a DevOps or SRE Role?
How much do the interviews differ for both these positions? #facebook
Infra is backend and internal systems. Product is front end and back end systems that are more feature and user facing. Production engineer is analogous to industry’s SRE. Interviews are exactly the same or infra and product. Not sure why they even have the distinction.
Growth wise they will be the same because you can have same level of impact. WLB wise, infra tends to be better, but there are some teams on product side that make or maintain stuff like frameworks, and those are decent as well. At the same time there are infra teams that have lots of on call or teams that make a back end tool that internal people use and breaks middle of night, and you get woken up. Best bet is to ask about WLB, pace, and on call during boot camp.
