Facebook vs Uber: Backend Services tech stack

I am from networking background. I am deciding between Facebook and Uber. One of the main criteria in my next job is to pic a team, which has a better tech stack, something that will be useful to me outside of the company as well. My area of interest is Backend services and distributed systems. Uber: I know that the team is a customer-facing backend service team, and I will be working with AWS products and other well known opensource technologies. Facebook: I have to choose a team during the bootcamp. So, I don't know which team I will join or whether work will be useful. Can you guys share your experience with Facebook or Uber? #facebook #uber #interview TC: 220 YOE:7

Facebook is better - uber (shows off) but it isn’t (I used to work at uber and I think my team in microsoft has a better tech stack) - also a lot of uber internal tools at some point were copy from fb (phabricator, phriction etc)

You moved from Uber to Microsoft? Did you take a pay cut? YOE? Level?

Thank you Microsoft! Uber Hiring Mgr told me things like Lucene, ML, AWS, kafka etc... All I heard from FB interviewer was some “hash” , php etc ... so FB stack sounded outdated to me...

We have in house version of everything you talk about here, but yeah php sucks, backend eng is a joke here.

Who told you that you'd be working with AWS products at Uber? Assuming you're not joining the build/deploy infrastructure team, all of that will be abstracted away from you.

Maybe terrablob team? There are some teams that still use AWS

Get FB on your resume, jumping to U or other companies will be easy

Facebook zxcvs Jan 13, 2020

Both companies on your resume would be enough to get a call from recruiter, and that's it.
