I landed an internship at Meta/FB and I’m having trouble deciding between NYC or MPK. Looking for insight into the differences in culture/vibe, teams, office amenities/benefits, wlb/typical work hours, between the two offices. Which location would provide a better internship experience and why? Which teams would you recommend for wlb and learning opportunities at each? TC: 🥜 #meta #facebook #internship #fb #nyc #mpk #california #newyork #cali #bayarea
Easily MPK. You’re at the mothership. You don’t need to live there permanently. NYC will always be there if you want
For internship, MPK all the way. You can work at NYC for a full-time role, but go experience HQ in the meantime
any reason why?
Get integrated into FB's culture at the heart of it. Even if it's for a summer
Not FB employee. Having visited both, the NYC office is smaller, but you'll have a lot more activities to do in NYC versus the Menlo Park campus. Get an apartment in Brooklyn or Queens and enjoy. Good luck in your internship!
NYC is a city. Menlo Park is a place nobody has ever heard of. If you’re young NYC all the way.
At a former job I’d have to travel to Mountain View once or twice a year. I always made a point to drive up to SF every night to eat at a good restaurant or whatever because the alternative in MV was sitting alone in my hotel room. Why would you choose to live there? I mean you could reverse commute from SF but that’s pretty horrible.
It’s where Facebook built a trillion dollar company. How many trillion dollar companies were built in NYC? I’ll wait
dude you’re young, have a good life in NYC, fuck a lot and do cool things other than hiking. People that move to NYC from the bay when they’re older find it hard to make friends and end up going back to that boring shithole. don’t become a dull west coaster
They probably end up coming back because they grow up and want to settle down with a family. Not everyone can pull off being 45 and single like a New Yorker
Or 63 and single like disgraced Gov Cuomo
NYC or remote if you want culture Bay Area if you wanna be around just techies
TC or GTFO 😠
I would always choose an east coast city if thats an option. I would even go to New Hampshire or Rhode Island, instead of Bay Area.
On a separate note: why is every new grad on here worried about WLB/remote? Y’all need to get off toxic Blind and get in to the office and work, and make allies who will be there for you throughout your career. Blind is full of self-loathing tech workers who hate everything, it’s not the best community to learn success and best practices from
Is this even a question? NYC is an actual city. Menlo Park is the suburbs with nothing to do.
