"I was fired last week by Google for organizing. All I did was make a popup to share the labor notice Google has to share with its workers. 3 hours later mgmt came to my desk, took my phone/laptop, escorted me away. I never got to say goodbye." https://mobile.twitter.com/eiais/status/1206937188409044993
Is there a better way to ensure every employee reads the notice other than firing a messenger to create a viral story?
Another activist down... "Kathryn Spiers, who worked as a security engineer, updated an internal Chrome browser extension so that each time Google employees visited the website of IRI Consultants — the Troy, Michigan, firm that Google hired this year amid a groundswell of labor activism at the company — they would see a pop-up message that read: “Googlers have the right to participate in protected concerted activities.”"
Does anyone else notice how similar capitalism and communism are? OP got disappeared.
? In communism when you get disappeared you dont get to write medium articles and contact the press
She also abused her position to further whatever message she had — sending an email to a mailer or putting a flyer in the break room is different from putting a popup that would appear every time you visited a certain website. Shameful as a “security engineer”
Isn't this illegal?
No.... Should have just made it the default on every website
Google is a for profit company and unionizing workers are bad for profits and so they get rid of dissenters. This freaks you out? 'Do No Evil' was a PR campaign. Google knows too much about it's users and needs to be broken up
I think Google is also afraid of what will happen to their hiring pool if employees unionize. Unions typically lead to a general leveling of wages. That’s problematic for the tech industry where there is a lot of variability in wages. It’s going to be harder to bring in high level engineers into a unionized shop. At least, I suspect that is a fear. I can say for myself that I would never even consider working for a unionized company, and if I company I worked for were to unionize, I would seriously consider exiting.
She put the message in an internal tool/product. Entirely different than sending an email to peers. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. And now she tries to play victim.
As someone who has worked in this industry for over 5 years now, it still blows my mind how autistic people are. Sometimes I feel like I’ll never be able to compete.
Over five years? Wow.
omg of course she looks like that
Mess with company security tool and wonder why they fire me.

Please say something useful or just refrain from writing what a 12 years old boy would say.
Lol are you butthurt because you’re Kathryn? Or are you upset at others watching the drama? Please tell me how useful any of the other comments are? Lol
