Tc;: 80 + 16 + 15(ESOP) 15 yrs No change in TC. Have 64 SSE at MS Hyd offer, bad work. Flipkart has good work. Was sde3 at Amzn. Took a break for 1yr due to personal emergency. Is it good idea to go for Flipkart now? Once I move to Flipkart as Architect, I don't think it's easy to switch to Mgmt role there, whereas I have that option in MS. My long term aspiration is move to Mgmt role. I am confused. What do u suggest?#microsoft #flipkart I don't see an easy career growth path for IC in india. Ppl with same experience as mine from much smaller companies are joining easily as Principal Engg Mgr at MS, but not as IC/PE. It seems it's easier to grow in Mgmt ladder, hence I aspire to switch, unless you tell me that I can earn/grow well as an Architect at Flipkart and get better opportunities once I quit Flipkart.
It's same CTC. Base as 54 plus 160 stocks over 4 yrs
160k usd stocks for 4 years? How about joining bonus.
Ask for L65 from microsoft. At 15 yoe, it's very much possible. People get L64 at 10 yoe.
Ya, kind of lowballed, but they are not listening. They want me to join and grow.
A common trap!
But, how abt Flipkart Architect? Is it a decent role for my experience and will it help me grow ,at least as an IC, if not as a manager?
How much joining bonus are you getting? Is it making your compensation >1cr
No, both companies offer is around 1.cr...flipkart is 1.1cr with private stocks of Flipkart.
Flipkart Architect is a much respectable position than than L64 at MS. Consider joining Flipkart for career growth perspective. Also I m not sure if Flipkart ESOPs are paper money or you could sell them.
Career growth in flipkart at arch is hard i guess. Would it be kind of terminal role? On other hand in msft you can still grow.
It's not at all terminal. You have Arch -> Senior Arch -> Principal Arch -> Senior Principal Arch. Architect is more about breadth than depth. You will be handling 2-3 teams at once(anywhere from 10-30 Engineers). As you go up in hierarchy and experience, you're SPAN will increase. Principal Architect is generally 1 per BU. Handling a team of more than 50-60 engineers.
If you quit flipkart latter at some point of time. It will be great for you in startup world for sure. Rest depends on work you are doing flipkart.
Flipkart architect roles doesn't have that good image as MS L64. There are 4-5 ladders of architects in fk, its really another SE. Go for MS
Am surprised to hear that Flipkart Architects don't have good image.
I don't think that Flipkart Architect is a terminal role. I think they have arch. Senior arch, principal arch and senior principal arch. I interviewed and based on the discussions with the HM it seemed like that it is similar to SDE-3 at Amazon. You are responsible for the Arch of a team on size 5-20 and mostly responsible for overseeing. I think it is same to senior arch but the team size or complexity grows. You will see a more advance cross cutting role if you could make it to principal architect. Also, Flipkart arch is much broader than some of the sse roles, although depth depends on the team from what I know.
Arch == Architect right.
Amazon SDE 3s have been hired as Architects here, but that's mostly because of being unable to fill Architect level or above positions as well as how large the SDE 3 band at Amazon is. In reality, we have typically 1 Architect per 30-40 engineers, sometimes even more so scope is definitely much broader. People who can clear the Architect bar in Flipkart are usually good enough to get Uber L5B, MS L65, Google L5/L6 so they don't end up joining us. And based on the current situation at most teams and the quality of management, it is the right decision not to mention they offer higher TC.
