Feeling dwarfed by my dad's millionaire friends, I realize my dreams of saving a few million and retiring seem minuscule. Despite their lack of education, their hard work and wise investments have yielded them 10-15 million. With my tech skills, I believe it's the perfect time to venture out on my own and see where it takes me. At 29 years old, I fear being trapped in the rat race and H1B visa paranoia forever, living an average life and constantly moving without a sense of belonging. Any suggestions on what I should do? How old are your dad’s millionaire friends? are you talking about their kids or the uncles?
Why does it matter what your father’s friends have done? Have some self respect man.
Prestige
The focus here is not on comparing myself with them, but rather on finding inspiration. It's about utilizing time wisely and recognizing that despite having privileges, I find myself becoming complacent with a mediocre life while I am at the peak of my abilities.
A free man in his native > A chained man in a palace.
There is no American Dream anymore. East is innovating way better and innovation in china and India is the proof. In the next decade America will struggle to export technology to rest of the world as all the countries will do it themselves. H1B system is such a shithole don’t even try to stick to it. Bottom line .. live your life. There is nothing special about America anymore
I am Indian, would love to believe your statement of east doing better in innovation but…I don’t see any good funding to univs or research institutes from govt. What is agree is on increased momentum in startup eco system and increase in opportunities in private sector.
How about marrying one of your dad's millionaire friends daughter and you will be one in no time too
Considering the same
How are your dads friends making millions ?
businesses encompass various sectors such as manufacturing, real estate brokerage, transportation, stock trading, lending, retail, and liquor sales. It is worth noting that none of them were born into privileged circumstances.
Same .. my uncle son came here in h1b couple years realized and move back and doing good.. olden days gone before 2005
I am your dad's age and the reason my investments have yielded such a great return is 30 years of investing in a relatively stable economy. No one has a crystal ball but, historically, if you stay invested you will do well too. India or US, that is a lifestyle choice. You will do well in both places but, as I approach retirement, family means a lot more to me than my job.
