Furniture is expensive. I was just thinking jow most working class people have cheap or used furniture. Working people usually cant afford decent furniture. People who go and buy living room sets at the Crate and Barrel for 10k - are these people “upper middle class,” or these actually “the rich”?
If you think crate and barrel is high end, then you should check restoration hardware. Low and Middle classes buy a lot in Ikea.
The rich buy fully furnished houses that they don’t live in year round.... and possibly buy the surrounding houses just for a little privacy. The non-homeless poor don’t have much furniture or they get it off the street. Furniture on the street is left by people living paycheck to paycheck who buy their furniture piece by piece. Nothing ever matches and sometimes there is a good sofa and a bad one or stacked furniture because you don’t have storage or are afraid to leave old furniture on the street (because what if some furniture breaks and you can’t replace it right away?).
