Gaming companies on resume

I'm currently interning as a backend dev at Ubisoft and have just accepted an internship offer at Activision Blizzard starting in January (both in Canada). I would like to get into more traditional tech companies in the future. Because of my experience at these two companies, my resume will be heavily gaming oriented (even though I'm not working on the games themselves). How attractive are these two brands on a resume from a non gaming tech company perspective like FAANG? TC: irrelevant but Activision Blizzard offer is 32$/hr CAD #faang #gaming

Would you be applying to the gaming divisions of any of these traditional tech companies? I know Amazon, Apple and Google have groups that work on gaming so if you’re applying to those types of roles, I’m sure it would be a big bonus for you

I've thought about this approach, might give it a shot! Thanks

Graphics and modeling are big in a lot of tech rn so it depends on how you apply your skill set. A pure gaming role may be the most straight forward but if you know game engine design, a number of automakers are starting to use gaming engines for infotainment stuff. See Tesla.

They wont affect you negatively. As a good rule of thumb, the only way a company can really impact you on your resume is positively, and you'll usually know if the company you work for will boost your resume. All other cases recruiters are neutral to it

Good to know, I was worried about this

You can convey the impression that you know how to code, especially in C++ or something similar. Unless your interviewers are code-monkeys it will be a good impression. If they are, they wouldn’t understand.

Nah, I ended up in “traditional” tech companies for full-time with 2-3 gaming internships. I really enjoyed them, but decided I didn’t want to work in gaming for my career. I’d say gaming internships make you more desirable towards gaming companies’ recruiters, but neutral to others in my experience. It doesn’t detract :)
