Aside from the obvious “go out of your way to help people and do good work”, do you have any specific things you do to increase your overall odds/frequency of receiving peer bonuses at Google? Such as, giving peer bonuses to people who are likely to reciprocate? Hinting at a desire for a peer bonus in exchange for help? Directly asking? And do you have specific kinds of help you offer to others, that you’ve found is more likely to lead to a peer bonus?
You should send at least two peer bonuses to a person with both readability if you want to have a review.
What is peer bonus in Google? How much?
You can’t exchange peer bonuses (aka: A gives peer bonus to B then B can’t give peer bonus to A in that quarter). Generally it’s better done a part of the team culture where contributions are appreciated via peer bonus or kudos.
Why do you care about this?
Are you asking me to list reasons why a person would want to receive more peer bonuses?
Yes. just wonder why it matters. In terms of money, it’s negligible comparing with TC. For perf, it’s not useful unless you get a lot of them which is rare.
I think another way we can all get more peer bonuses is to start talking more about criteria to give peer bonuses. Within your team you could try to start a culture of sending peer bonuses, influencing others to send them too. I think it’s fun to have this much appreciation go around. Then you may also eventually be more likely to get one.
Good idea. There seems to be a wide range of engagement level with the bonus system, so I imagine your team’s engagement level is a huge factor. How important do you think this kind of feedback is to promos?
