I have been using google drive for 5 years. I can't pay for the next year because they want a Govt ID from me. They are keeping my valuable photos and memories as a hostage. I have to download all of my drive stuff on my laptop and cancel my subscription. I used to think my data is safe with a trillion dollar company. Why is google acting like the government? You are a private business. Act like one #tech
I agree. They leverage their power
You probably got caught up in some sweep. A lot of the porn and hack content is open shared on Google drive, OneDrive and the like.
still not a good excuse to get govt ID. People can still share such content with the non-subscription drive.
Sound business decision for them - obviously you did something unsavory.
It’s most likely to comply with state/country policy. I can guarantee you that no company wants extra hassle to take your money.
It makes sense when trading platforms have a "Know your customer"(KYC) policy to avoid money laundering etc. But this doesn't make any sense. And we should ask why they are doing this instead of internalizing it.
I use pCloud, works great. Purchased a lifetime subscription for 500GB and I don't have to worry about service discontinuation. They are a European company so they will continue operating as long as they are profitable. A US based company may disband if profits are not high enough.
thanks for the recommendation. I think its a good deal. 50 usd for 500gb for a year.
Try it and If you like it, watch for lifetime subscription offerings during back Friday time. I paid $190 for lifetime for 500GB.
What’s the problem with providing a government ID?
can you post your Govt id in the comments please? I need to identify you before i respond.
Are they asking you to post it for everyone to see, or to provide it to Google?
