Hey, I'm a Xoogler working on my own project full time. I'm running out of runway and so I need to support myself again. Would prefer not to go to the mothership full time right now. Does anyone know how to get a part time contract position at Google?
Try reaching out recruiters on LinkedIn. Contract positions are still relatively easy and work load is less as compared to FT. Search “contract Meta/Google” or “contract openings Meta/Google” on LinkedIn and go to posts. A lot of recruiters have posted contract positions as public posts and try reaching out to them. They need you more than you need them so hopefully you’ll get positive response from them. Sharing it from my experience of landing contract job.
Do you go through the same coding interview hoops with a contract position?
Speaking from my experience, others might have experienced different. For FT positions it’s normally 4-6 rounds of coding interview. But for contract positions it’s normally 1-2. In those 2 interviews, depending on what kind of position that is, they either ask easy/medium questions or they don’t ask coding questions at all. Special for contract position which are for QA, Technical Customer Support or roles which don’t require coding as well, they check how knowledgeable you’re for things you worked on and give you different case scenarios to see how you handle different situations or how you debug certain problem.
