Google L3 Offer Negotiation

Recently, I received a Google L3 return offer for bay area. Here is the breakdown: 142k base 15% annual bonus (21k) 15k signing bonus RSU: 100k with 33, 33, 22, 12 vesting So the TC for year 1 is 211k. I have a competing offer with a TC of about 350k from an HFT but I would really prefer to join Google. How much can the initial offer increase after negotiation? Any other tips?

Congrats on the Google offer - increase Google offer on stock and sign - congrats as Google will layoff 10k people so the first few months you will need to kick ass but saying this I don’t know HFT. What’s your YOE?

Which HFT ? Also, isn't the delta too big ? Most HFTs have just as good of a brand as Google.

Just join hft

You can try for more equity and signing bonus, but you won’t get much. Google will spit on your 350k and tell you to take or leave their offer. They know you want to take it.

It seems a new grad offer, from my experience they don't negotiate much on those

Google bippo001 Nov 24, 2022

That's what I got for a new grad offer last year. They didn't let me negotiate without a competing offer

Meta goober69 Nov 24, 2022

And annoyingly they sometimes don’t consider finance as a “competing offer”

HFT WLB will be much worse. But much better tc clearly

not always true for swe. Sometimes swe have great wlb eg two sigma

Lmao... take the HFT offer ASAP. There are hundreds of qualified people like you who would happily take your L3 offer. You have little negotiating leverage as a new grad, especially in this market. Anything above the offer you have is cutting into L4 comp, especially in this market!
