Got a Google L4 offer in Cloud: 160k Base, 15% annual bonus, $360k / 4 years No sign on Amazon L5: 178k Base, 109k 1st year sign on, 77.5k 2nd year sign on 75 Amazon RSU with the normal amazon vest Current TC: 250k YOE: 4 Amazon team is a data team within an ML org. I'm much more excited about working in ML than infrastructure in Cloud. But someone gave me the advice that you should pick based on the company, not the team. What would you do? #engineering #swe
Definitely Google. If you're interested in ml, you can easily switch teams over there and ml at Google will be much better. Other than that, the style of work, learnings, culture, brand at Google is much much better. Also with refreshers your Google TC will increase a lot but Amazon won't give you refreshers. And no bonus also at Amazon Amazon is known to chew and spit ppl out. Pls do not take Amazon. Make it into a poll.
lolololol this seems to be the general advice. My concern about google is the reputation for being "lazy" and honestly they haven't innovated that much business-wise. They have the best engineers but can't solve business problems. Wondering if that's valid or not though since I'm a SWE.
Lol at easily switch teams to ml at google. Especially from cloud infra.
Your Amazon offer is close to 300k. Ask Google to match that and join Google and switch to whatever team you are interested in after a year.
I think it might be harder to move teams internally than people are saying. Just make sure you check this. Ask Google to match the Amazon offer
Any advice on how to check this? Reach out to google employees on Linkedin?
Ask Googlers right here on Blind. Recruiters may not be honest
I'd go for Amazon, more scope at L5 and higher comp. Promo at Google is very hard, take what you can get.
Why more scope? L5 is sde2 at Amazon and all my friends don't have big scope. Sde 3 is the one which has much broader
L5 Amazon and L4 Google are the same level though? You're saying L5 has more scope?
amazon wlb and culture is so bad
Google resume > Amazon resume
Did you have to negotiate with Amazon for that offer or was it their first offer?
Had to negotiate. If you get an offer without a competing FAANG, both Amazon and google lowball you hard.
OP, did u share screenshots of email offers or had to share entire offer letter ?
@OP what did you decide on?
Google offer looks on the low side. I know an L4 who got 350k TC. Negotiate and take G.
Locations?
Both are in the Bay Area
