Just got a L7 SWE offer at Google. base $265K Stock 1.2M Sign-On 70K How does this compare to typical L7 engineer IC Offer at Google? Should I counter? Current TC - $680K YOE: 15 Years
Congrats on the offer but that looks really low for an L7
Thank you for the tip. I've not signed off yet.
Let's face it op, it's a pay cut but you'll sign anyway. They know what they are doing.
Not too bad, but I think you can push for more. Btw. How was your interview? Is it for GCP or other org?
Thank you very much for the tip. The interview was much heavier on domain and system design, since this is for L7. There was only one interview for coding/algorithms: a slight variation of Knapsack problem (worded as a general scheduling problem). They take the behavioral/leadership round very seriously.
Thank you for the details! Curious if you asked the recruiter to be considered for L7, or they assigned you to that loop based on initial conversation? Did you meet your hiring manager beforehand or you went through the general process? I know there are different recruiters hiring for L7+ positions vs the others who target lower levels.
Google is so on it's way to become the next Microsoft. Not that it's a bad thing.
I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean MSFT is bad? I've never understood this opinion about Microsoft. It is a large company, so your experience will vary depending on the team. But there are teams with extremely good managers and world-class engineers. Thinking of leaving only because I've been here for a very very very long time...
I meant that they're trying to lower thier overall compensation to engineering throughout knowing that people will still flock in like sheep given thier brand. I explicitly mentioned that it isn't a bad thing. Both of the companies are best at what they do and good for engineers as well
What's ur current level in MS? 680 is way above L67 target.
I am at the upper end of L66. Will most likely get L67 promo this year (if I decided to not leave). Edit: Ah, you said "above". Yes, I've been top 15% in every review for 15 years.
What’s your secret to be top 15%. What do you do differently?
Is it seattle/redmond or bay area? 670 is unbelievable for L66
My current base is 265K, bonus ~85K, stock ~130K. I also have a retention award that vests over 3 years - this year being the last one. I guess I will make less next year if I stay, even with L67 promo.
Wait how does that become 670k, that’s 480k. Also congrats on that type of salary at Microsoft
66 to l7 is a pretty good upgrade. Stock could be larger, but a competing offer might be needed.
I don't have any competing offers.
Your current job is a competing offer
this is low for L7. I was offered slightly lesser than this but with front-loaded RSUs for L6 in GCP. you can negotiate more.
Thank you for the tip. Do you mind specifying your offer details? Did you have a competing offer? I did not interview anywhere else.
My offer was 240K base 1.2m stock, 30K sign on
$1.2M for L7? Why so low.. :/
Can you please help me with what is typical?
$1.6-$2.2M
Your TC @ MS is really good! Low-balled by Google
I have the option to stay. And, the G offer is not final yet. Can you please tell me what is typical at G-L7 or FB-E7?
Your offer matches a high end E6 offer @ FB. But I know recent a couple of years Google stopped bidding war and know several cases that their offer is much mess than FB’s. So you should try FB (well, very high expectations though)
