L6 PM at google, good WLB, interest in the current area low (but... internal, good WLB I said?). Wasn't looking thinking will look for more excitement at Google when I hit my 2-year mark at the current and first role (about 5 months away). contacted by FB Director PM, targeting specific role L6 (none of that general loop crap, I know what team/role). Interest in that role high. so... 1/ In general, thoughts on FB PM vs Google? I hear it is more intense, worse WLB... so all else equal, anyone makes a case to consider FB? 2/ comp wise, any stats on even a potential of better TC as L6 at FB vs Google (because really that needs to be part of the deal to make me leave). current TC 360K, no refreshers yet. More metadata: I got one CM and one EE since I joined. expect my 3rd per to be EE but not sure yet :-)
You should consider. From my experience working at G, PMs there are just for namesake and engineers drive everything. In FB you will have a real job.
No refresher after almost 2 years ?
noogler rules, when you join after some date (I think April) you cannot get a refresh on first perf cycle (Jan next year)
Which part of FB?
let's say somewhere in the technical teams, around AI or assistant.
TC can be higher at FB, that’s a given. Outside of that, how much more excitement do you want in your life? Starting a new job at a new company is always stressful. FB is more stressful than G in general. So... are you willing to give up some WLB for some more TC? It’s really a personal choice, no right answer. Also, think about if you get bored at G or FB and need to switch teams. IMO G has more options, some of them more exciting than others of course but more to choose from.
What's CM & EE?
Google L6 PM is only 360TC?🤔 Why do I find so varying numbers. I see some Google PM offers here for L5 going above 350 and L6 above 400. What's the truth here? Are there well publicised ranges?
Was your CM for the first perf cycle? Is it true that they can’t give you EE on your first cycle? 😓
yes for my first, and I think I rocket it.. as much as you can (still, you can do great relatively, but absolutely speaking you can't say you contribute to the company as much as someone that has been in that team for the year right? ) so I don't know if it is true that ALWAyS you get CM for first, but I bet it is VERY correlated.
Makes sense. At least wait until your 2yr mark and see how much you’re getting in refreshers (even if you go to FB then, you can prob get a bigger TC there). Also, did you look at internal transfer? There should be plenty L5/L6 opps.
Don't bother.
Your TC is likely to increase by 50-100K by default and you can then negotiate some more given the specific interest from FB. If TC is not an issue, come to Amazon, we pay about the same but are looking for strong PMs, particularly at AWS.
Pretty sure I've seen L7 PMTs at AWS get over 400. And L6 300-315.
That’s likely a TC that includes 1-2 years of stock growth. The TCT in the offer is possible to bring to low 400’s but mid 300’s is more common. Oh, I’m sorry, I was referring to Seattle comp, which is lower than in the Bay Area. I assumed everyone has moved to Seattle by now :-)
