YOE: 1 TC : š„ Just got the news on Thursday that I passed the HC for L3. I said that I was open to just about any location but I had a preference for Pittsburgh. I see tons of posts here about how team matching is a nightmare and people don't get a match for months, but I see a lot of the time that it's because they specified a hot location with a low headcount like NYC. Does anyone at Google know if Pittsburgh is similar? UPDATE: Here's the timeline for people in a similar boat. I got a call from the recruiter that I passed HC on Thursday, and submitted the team match form on Friday (specified Pittsburgh as my first choice, MTV as second and Boulder as third). The following Monday I got a notification from the team match committee saying that a manager wanted to meet with me (Pittsburgh). Met with them the next day (Tuesday) and said I was interested. The next day the team match committee told me that they liked me too (Wednesday). I spoke with my recruiter on Thursday to talk about comp expectations and was given the formal offer on Friday. I realize I got really lucky, but wanted to share my experience so that people know it's possible to get matched with a team in a smaller location really quickly.
Congratulations! During onsite rounds did you get the optimal solution every round or did you have to brute force 1 or more rounds?
So during my first 4 interviews, I got the optimal solution (I think) for two of them. The other two did not go well (I took too long to figure things out, and I wasn't familiar with the concepts they asked me), which is why I got 2 follow-up interviews. First follow-up interview I provided a solution, but it didn't work for one case. Second one I did optimally.
Nice! Makes me feel a bit better. I got 3 optimal with 1 brute force for a new grad role. š¤ For both of us
Smaller offices can be tough as there is simply less volume of new roles/turnover. The Bay is by far the fastest. Seattle is actually now our second largest location for SWE. I did Bay and Seattle and it took me about six weeks to find a team and two weeks for comp committee and SVP approval. Iād expect Pittsburgh to take maybe 3 ish months but it can be highly variable.
Ah gotcha. Thanks for the insight! I put the Bay as my second choice, so hopefully I hear from those teams too
> Seattle is actually now our second largest location for SWE Source? Isn't NYC the second largest engineering office?
OP, are you in Pittsburgh?

grats on passing hc, op. did your recruiter let you know before taking your packet to hc? also what was the timeline?
After my onsite, recruiter told me a week later that I needed 2 more interviews. Had those scheduled a few days later. Few days after that recruiter told me I passed HC. All in all it took 2 and a half weeks after my onsite to be told that I passed. Recruiter never told me they submitted, but ymmv
thanks op. good luck!
