Canceling debt isn’t inflationary or costing tax payers
Question for those of you in the know: I have had two types of referral experiences at Google: 1) sending my resume to someone whose team was hiring someone new and he forwarded it on to a recruiter without me having to apply anywhere online. Didn’t hear from the recruiter at all until I was told I wouldn’t even get to step one of the process (apparently I was too late because they had already started phone interviews when I applied, even though I was more qualified/experienced than the person hired who coincidentally was someone I knew) 2) Googler sending out a customized referral link that allows me to apply to three jobs in 30 days. I just did this so no idea of outcome. What is the more successful approach to getting through the clutter using a referral? Or what’s the most typical way people using referrals are hired, through a person giving your resume to a recruiter or the referral link?
I just applied on their careers page and went through the process. Maybe I just have a good resume? I don’t think so
I in the past got through that way (two times on-site) but maybe because I’ve been flagged as two times failure, applying as a regular joe doesn’t get me anywhere so banking on referrals. 😐
@Hooliganss would you please DM me your resume link. I wanna see it
An internal reference holds weight after you pass the standard process. It can’t sneak someone in that doesn’t pass the process though. It can move you to the top of the list for processing though.
Interesting. And if it moves you to the to the top of the list for processing, any idea what the average turn around time is from applying to hearing from a recruiter? I have applied a few times without referrals years ago and swore I heard back quicker than this. I hope I’m not blacklisted (didn’t interview three times for same position, interviewed twice in person for different non-tech positions related to each other)
Referrals get you looked at, but if your referrer doesn’t actually know you and has never worked with you, I don’t think a referral carries much weight. A lot of companies ask for your working relationship and how much you know about the person when the referral is submitted, so I’ve never understood why people request referrals from strangers. If you’re qualified enough to get in the door, you’d have the same chance with a referral or otherwise. If you’re on the line or not sure, a random referral who can’t speak to your qualifications isn’t going to help I don’t think.
I think you’re thinking of two types of referrals. The type where just getting your resume through the clutter and the type where the person says this person is someone I would put my reputation on the line for and can add in additional work related feedback on. In any case, my referral came through and going through the process now. But had I gone through the regular apply online situation, I wouldn’t have the same opportunity because the original role I applied for closed and was reached out for another opportunity.
Dm for google
Can you refer for channel sales jobs? also how many can you do? thanks!
With each link you can apply to 3 jobs. Dm me if interested.
Is this still available? 20 yoe, doing important work but sick of 🥜.😕
I just pinged my friend here and told him I'm looking around, and he was happy to refer me. At the same time, I replied to a Google recruiter (their cycle timing was right) and cross-mentioned my friend after he put in the referral. I didn't have to apply to anything. I didn't think you ever needed to apply for specific jobs at Google, unless you are a domain expert PhD. I had team matching after interviews.
Oh I should probably mention I’m not in eng, I’m in sales ops so I assume not the same “you can code, we’ll find a team for you” situation.
Ah yes that is a different story hehe
