Hello, I recently graduated from University and I'm currently on F1 OPT. I'm selected for the H1B lottery this year (first attempt). But now I got an offer from Walmart(SDE3), Sunnyvale, California location. Is it possible to apply for the H1B transfer before October 1? If it's not, is it worth leaving H1B and joining there. Current Total TC: 145k, Texas Please comment/dm for suggestions. I can't decide by myself.
Don’t leave H1 for any job. It’s lottery and you may not get it ever again.
In the worst case scenario, day1 CPT is a bad option ? I heard many companies including Walmart allow day1 CPT employees
There are few of my co-workers on day 1 CPT that’s about to run out who still did not get their H1. Trust me, it’s not worth it
Zip it and work for the company that got your H1B. Get a few paychecks after Oct 1st and make a move. You'll thank yourself later. Dont think short term
I am also in similar situation. But decided to stay with current company. Don’t reject H1B at this time.
I am also in same boat
OP not worth it. File your H1B get it stamped and then try to move companies. You don't get lucky twice so don't push it
Op I work for walmart. 5 straight year no h1b selection. I know the pain of being unlucky. Trust me stay with the current company.
Thank you everyone for the suggestions. Is there a way to postpone the offer until Oct 1? I was not interviewed for a specific team ( got through team matching). Which option do you suggest ? 1. Push it for 3 months and later 3 months again 2. Be open with the recruiter of my situation?
Don’t leave H1B unless you have plans to leave us in a couple of years. What are you worried of? That your company might fire you before October? Your TC seems very good for Texas and I highly doubt if Walmart is giving a Tc to cover similar lifestyle in Bay area for sde3.
General rule - H1B is important .. companies will come and go but visa stays 😁 Think long term - stay in current company and check what is der perm process strategy .. is it something if they can start within next 3-6 months .. if not then plan a switch .. If you switch now you will loose your h1b lottery .. it is not worth ..
