SDE I, TC 190 I joined Amazon 3 months back, had a mental breakdown at the time so I wasn't up to doing work, been coasting and doing nothing but playing League. I'm ok now and want to get my shit together but I think I'm in big trouble. Apparently, I'm pretty good at pretending to be busy it seems, no one really questions what I do and I always have things to say during standups and planning, always along the line of "I'm still working on it", "it branched off into this problem", "should be soon", etc. Plus most of what I have on my sprint board are SPIKES so I can get away with them for now. But no shit, I have 0 CR so far except BT101 and I don't understand any fucking thing. Like wtf is a pipeline and CDK and Apollo. I pulled the code and tried to build them just now, got an AWS credential missing error. I can't imagine asking anyone about it because this is definitely a setup error and I should have asked this question 3 months back and I can't imagine even trying to explain what I've done in the past 3 months. I really need to get my shit together. I need this job. The team is nice, manager is nice, everything is very chill. Plus the competition is brutal out there with all the layoffs, I don't wanna be in it. I want to keep this job. I'm panicking, someone help!!! Anyone with free time, could I please dm you with stupid noob questions to get me up to speed? 😭😭 #engineering #software #swe #amazon
don’t take out your wife’s frustration on this kid
Dont you have any internal tools like Slack where you can search for answers ? Someone would have asked these
It's like, the question is "My car is not running" and most answers are about fixing engines, gas, sensors, when my actual problem is that I don't know that you have to step on the gas pedal for it to move.
Yeah mate you're fucked
Ping me your alias, happy to help where I can
Just say your computer got corrupted and you need to get everything set back up again duh…
nah corruption can be verified OP gotta break their laptop and say they dropped it
That will buy me a week at most, won't solve anything.
Left amazon very recently and currently in the on-boarding process of another company. I can help you out but only with cdk and pipelines, Apollo is legacy deployment hosts in amazon and I do not have much experience with it but overall i can very well help you out with the basic on-boarding stuff. Only catch is my time won't be free and you will have to pay me up front
Spill coffee on your computer. This way you can get a new M1 MacBook. You hardstuck D4 monkey dog.
Yeah your team definitely notices with 0 CR and 3 months. I hope you get it together though and I suggest reading the documentation, sage, wiki, code.amazon, etc. Assuming you don't want to ask a coworker...
Lol I'm in the same boat. Have been here like five months but have made mostly trivial crs, at a very low frequency. Definitely am lowest performer on team. A pipeline helps you test your code in different environments. Cdk allows you to build your infrastructure to support your service and the pipeline (pipeline, load balancer, cache, dynamo db tables, kinesis, etc, deployment group, iam role). Not exactly sure what Apollo is but it's related to ec two and fleet management I think. Someone please correct me if I'm saying something wrong, would like to understand these concepts better.
Why shouldn't you guys create a slack channel or a learning group where you can help each other ?
Pipeline is more about CI/CD but you're correct that many types of testing are part of this process.
Can you please dm which team is this ? I would like to get in. Also I can help with the building stuff

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
I can. But you gotta cashapp me for time spent helping you. Dm if interested
Will you also take over a weeklong oncall at AWS for a fee? It is once every 2 months or so. DM if interested.
lol if you’re serious I love the idea. Joining Amazon soon and not really interested in learning the tech stack.
