HR complaint and implications

Hi, [non Amazon employees may ignore] My post may be obvious to my manager. I don’t care. just using my wife’s account to avoid the possibility of getting OP’s email. Here’s my situation: I am L5 at Amazon working for one of the Alexa teams related to Ring, Nest, Simplisafe etc. I have been in focus for a while now (more than 3 months). My manager has been regularly insulting me in front of the team. For example, talking about one of my code reviews in daily stand up. Asking people to have the communication (for one of my projects) on email and include him in every discussion. He literally made it obvious to everyone that I am in focus and making it so visible that my pip is justified for others to not be afraid. I am least bothered about pip at this point. I want my focus to end and all these email intrusions. I am looking at the option of filing a complaint to HR. Not that they care, I want the current actions to stop. My worry is - will that complaint impact background checks in future. Also, will that impact green card processing too ? Thanks TC: 220 Yoe: 7 #pip #amazon

Remember that HR is there to protect the company. Complaints won’t work for you. Ask your manager for the goals you need to meet to get off focus. They need to be something you can measure on your own. If he is not providing you with that, you can ask HR to work with the manager on improving the criteria. Talking to HR won’t impact background check or green card. But you should be realistic about what you hope to get out of it. You really have two options , get off focus and transfer teams or leave Amazon.

I literally want my HR to suggest my manager to pip me or at least stop public feedbacks. I cannot just resign for free after been through so much mentally for 3 months. As simple as that.

I think you’re naive about HR. Unless you have easily documentable proof of actual physical or sexual abuse … you need to go to another team, basically. And not make a deal about this. Heres a story from my career. I was CXO and the CEO decided to pull a gun on me to force me to leave and give him millions in equity. HR then protected the company and made it impossible for me to get another comparable job. I had just hired the HR person a month earlier because of abuse claims against that ceo.

No point of doing all these things. I would suggest focus effort to crack another job.

Best option is leave amazon.

HR complaint is one way to stand up to the bully, another way is to put the manager in his place in front of others. Do it smartly, professionally. If they got a mouth, so does you. If you cannot stand up to manager, HR complaint will help you sleep better cz you will know you took actions. The manager has already done all he could by putting you in PIP. After that, once you are let go, your future employers won’t know if you were let go or resigned. There is no “service letter” in the US. For GC, all you need from Amzn is skills letter which you can use the generic template provided by company. At last, I can understand it is bothering you so much that you’re using your wife’s account, take time off or start taking half days off or start skipping meetings with that manager, use health as the reason. Take care of yourself, that manager will have it coming, your mental health is your top priority.

No, it won’t affect your background checks or Greencard processing. Don’t worry! We all know Amazon is toxic

the complaint will do exactly nothing. bgc will say URA (no rehire). you can’t change that at this point. you’ve wasted the last 3 months if you haven’t been LC and interviewing the whole time. start tomorrow

BGC says URA ? omg, this is scary !

Look at this Lost Marbles from December 2021: [Blind] Out of Focus in 15 days !!! Recommended putting my L7 manager and L8 skip level manager into focus to VP!!! (Amazon) https://us.teamblind.com/s/SETKuLeC There's been several other people who were taken out by HRBP, too. You do have to be persistent and play politics to win.
